Can only imagine
My hat's off to everyone involved in this fine mod. I can only imagine (but helped by reading posts) the frustration with all of the nit picking. The beauty is that people express their opinion. The issue comes as in real life that too many people think that because an opinion is expresed it is right (even my own). The fact is, this is the way you (GWX Team) wanted to make the mod, and if like you with the original SH3, they don't like the way it works they can do their research surround themselves with talented people and create their own mod the way they want it. If not then their opinions are not your responsibility and you can choose to accept them or not. I think GR's agravation to some extent shows the care this team has for the sim community as a whole. I am new to this game platform and have been sucked in in a way I never expected. Just the few little forays into tweaking some settings has given me an appreciation for the huge task the team has undertaken.
GR have one of those Becks on me and I raise my glass to the entire team. |
Anybody got a link to the stock/vanilla mod I can try ? :hmm:

Going out on multiple patrols and not encountering anything, or very little, might be realistic, but it'd make for a really ****ing boring game. Games are played, after all, to be enjoyed. People are entitled to play SH3 in the manner that suits them, with neither regard nor concern for anyone else's opinions. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to go about it, and being prissy about how strangers spend their spare time is sort of silly.
SH3 was a good game, and GWX has made it much better. As a u-boat game nothing touches it, but it cannot be anything but a poor simulation of the German submarine experience of 60-odd years ago. The two are entirely separate things. It just happens to be an inherent limitation of computer sims. EDIT: For myself, I think the new smaller merchant ships are a big improvement. Convoy makeup also seems to be much more random now. Not that it matters, but I play with everything except Realistic Sinkings and "no god's eye view". And I just saw a huge shoot out between the Italian airforce and a cruiser task force. |
Seriously tho after reading the 1st post and most of the posts that have complained about the items mentioned therein. I dont think anyone really said anything like, "I hate this game, its too god damn real, you guys really suck for making it!"
I view this forum as a place where sub commanders come to share there woes much like the bar in "Das Boat". And as we all know, especially those of us who were prior military, it is the god given right of everyone to bitch, gripe, whine and complain. So if my fellow commanders want to gripe about something.. so be it. Talk about realism? You think real sub commanders didnt pull there hair out in frustration? Or complain about crappy torpedoes? Or lack of targets? You know they did. All the complaints sound pretty real to me. :hmm: Even complaining about the complaining.. :rotfl: Sometimes you learn alot when you post a minor gripe.. hell look at my post where I was crying about getting shredded by AA fire from a merchant. Even the guys on the History channel couldnt spit out responses like I got! I dont think anyone is being ungrateful for the hard work put into this expansion and or the added realism. I think theyre reacting like any real boat commander if faced with the same changes or occurrences. I think the GWX Team has done a fine job keeping it so that the non ubers of us (like me) can still enjoy gameplay. I dont think that at even at the easiest settings that GWX or even SH3 is that easy. Maybe for some of the ubers who play 100% realism and can plot firing solutions in there sleep it is but not for most. Folks use the term arcade to describe easy settings. When I think of arcade, I remember the actual arcade game where you had a periscope with a lil red button to fire your torpedoes at the ships wich passed in front of you like ducks in a row. GWX, SH3 with no mod that I know of is like this. Even if you get the XXI boat in 39 you can still die from a number of things so there is no true god mode. So to me there is no arcade mode. When I started playing SH3 my 1st patrol I played at 0% realism. Each time I started a new career I upped it a lil bit. Now I am at 34% hoping to graduate to the next lvl. Which mind you, I could not do without learning from all the knowledgable pesonnel on this site. Mostly through my own inane rantings or someone elses. So in closing... I guess I will apologize in advance for any future dopey questions or whiney posts. I am proud to be a member of this forum and feel priveledged to be able to banter back and forth with my fellow kaluens whether they are a 1st time gamer, 0% realism player or 100% seasoned hardened salty dog. I still have much to learn from ALL of you. Thank you...sorry for the biblical novel. |
@Hanomag
"Biblical novel" eh? :hmm: http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/7528/rtfmri8.jpg :rotfl: :rotfl: Good post  http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...es/welcome.gif |
That is a splendid idea! I think SH should be modded to be an arcade game like space invaders for the people who only want eye candy. You drive your u-boat, shoot torpedos, and dodge depth charges.

I am in PERFECT agreement that everyone is entitled to their own style of play, from casual to arcade to über realism. We all started at some casual and not fully educated level of play.
BUT When some arcade 10% realism player downloads a realism/difficulty/historical accuracy mod like GWX that qent through vast research and development... and then Pisses and moans about the realism and difficulty... Thats where I draw a line in the sand. if this player is looking for enhanced damage FX or better graphics or better sound without modifying the difficulty or realism... This community has many talented modders who have developed such things. They should have researched the fact that aside from many graphic and sound improvements GWX makes the game harder and more true to history as well before downloading it and complaining that its more difficult |
Yep. We could have made it even harder to survive.
Could have added "Somethings" that are not in SH3 but were used in the Real War. Adjusted this, tweaked that, equiped things to be more deadly . As infact they were. But we didn't. Yet. :o And Jimbuna. We haven't finished the "Vanilla GWX for SH3" version yet!!! Takes a long time to remove all the stuff back to that level!! What? 2 years minimum? :rotfl: |
Making it harder ?

Making it harder ? No problem.... I'm one of those real live guys... ####################### HARDER != MORE REALISTIC ####################### Lets' think about it a second.... a) you need proof for that simulated behaviour b) you need to know the statistics -> you need numbers -> send opinions to hell.... |
How about:
"Privateer's GWX 2.0 with Regular Steriods Injections" mod? :rotfl: |

The name "HUNTER" , to me atlease means---
Hunting those things that are not EASY to get. I broke in hunting small game , then deer, and once in Colorado setteled down to Elk hunting.
I have six bulls over 5x5, but now days pickout the lone dry cow which taste better. Those are harder to pick out ( could be my old eyes too). Archery was my first love, then Blackpowder, and now as age becomes a factor my choice is a Rifle( 300 win. mag]. As an USAF survival/rescue man some times hunting for food to stay alive was the task, other times hunting for a downed pilot required similar attention to detail and doggedness. In both cases quiting or worst even, failure was not a option. This game puts me back in the "sneek", "quiet","one shot" mentality that was ,and in some small way, is much of who I am. I still like the Flight Sims LOCKON & OFF mod to CFS. But this game has most of my attention. Word has it the son/grandson team in Colorado will be sending SH4 this year much like they did SH3 last year. SNAKE1937 |

Now on the topic of the origonal post I totaly agrie. If you just want to "run n' gun" just stick to stock SHIII. People that just complain its too hard and dont want realism shouldnt of downloaded it in the firstplace. So shut up and play stock!

however I will qualify that with the statement that there is room to see what potential a historically accurate UKruizer might have had in campaign. What if doesnt necessarily have to be unrealistic. M |
I haven't got GWX 2.0 yet and it's various files are in my download manager, being downloaded for an hour or two each night. But I do hear stuff like the occasional 90%+ torpedo failures.
That is one hell of organized sabotage and I wonder why it never made into the history book the way it sounds. The tommies must have several dozen hookers and cleaners/loaders, heck, even a sizeable number of kriegsmarine navy guards (and naturally a sizeable number of senior officers) on every harbor, even German, who spend whole nights saboteuring torps in the storage and the few ones that are left unscathed are the ones they couldn't sabotage due to lack of time (hell of an arduous job doing 90% of all the torps!). That is one hell of amazing pre-emptive espionage capability, seeing the spies infiltrated the kriegsmarine long before 1939. :p Sorry but that's how I'm imagining it. |
my crew is loyal and thorough I never experience sabotage
2.0 is a tremendous piece of work. and playable as you like it imo its flaws are few and its virtues abundant and worth all that time waiting on the d/l to complete I promise. |
