Finished this one about a year ago. The scary part was cutting the hull in half:yep:
Sorry about the picture quality, my modeling skills are better than my photo skills:rotfl: http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/3302/aut0012gn7.jpg http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/8519/aut0010qw7.jpg http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/4917/1000610jh0.jpg |

Warning to people thinking of buying the Revell in 125 scale-its a old form and has lots of faults when constructed.
If the scale 1-72 is to big for your accomodation - check the new release from Revell - 1-144 D wersion and i believe they are ready to release the shorter B variant in the same scale / both sporting same excellent detail , and you can get the photo etched parts for both now/ As to the U-99 in 1-125 i just finished the model and sunk it in my tank waiting for the algae to do its dirty bussiness on it :yep: Thats the only good think to do as the detail is poor. http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/6...1060id7.th.jpg and sunk: http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/2...1062co2.th.jpg http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/8...1061nd4.th.jpg The 1-72 still graces the top of my attic in wait for photo etched parts , and crew from Hannants: http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/ind...+asc&offset=50 |
Skookum - try to drill the flood holes in the hull - it greatly improoves any model as you can see from pics below on the stock Revell 1-125 , and drilled .
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/3...0934oo0.th.jpg predrilled... http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/5...0945we1.th.jpg http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/229...0946kf6.th.jpg ...and after. Good luck with the project. |
Here's an update:
I've been painting as I go which means the boat has been coming together slowly but surlely. I've been using brushes so far with thick coats in order to give the surface some texture (like corroding steel with fresh paint over top) so it looks a little rough right now. The real tedious part was hollowing our the drainage holes in the hull. I didn't have a drill bit small enough to drill them out, so I took an X-acto knive and carved each one out by hand. Sure glad that part's over with:o:x:doh::doh::doh: Here are some pics. The conning tower is nearly done. It's just sitting on the deck without glue, and the deck in turn is sitting on the hull without glue. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1423_small.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1427_small.jpg |

http://www.ecomodelismo.com/ECO_imgA...NDR-S12S02.jpg I uploaded that to their site. Worked hard on her, too. I had an RC model of the Bismarck, but my cat tore the hell out of the deck and crew after sitting on it... She's 17 pounds...:damn: |
skookum, nice work thus far. if it's not too late, try and get a set of jewlers screwdrivers. with a fine-ish file, you can sharpen the blade and finger twist to drill out what needs drilling. i've done it with great results on 1:35 scale .50cal MGs, and smaller caliber in the same scale. my forte, btw, is armor, tho i've been toying with the idea of picking up a boat

If I can, I will post pics during its construction/painting in a new post (If I remember to) |
I have a life. I'm currenly building this same model with my nine-year old boy. :yep:

Have the Revell Type VIID 'Minenleger' at 1:144 scale still in bits in it's box; keep putting it off and using the 'have no glue' excuse :-?
