Hopefully you can getan upgrade soon, I have a new build, so it is nice to have the experience of SH4:yep:

Sorry. I don't mean to start a political tirade here. But it does make me angry that there's such a disparity between our eagerness to jump on the negatives and our reluctance to acknowledge the positives. And yes, I know that's a complaint. Ironic, isn't it? ;)

Both good, 10 positives are brought down by 1 negative, a sad but true part of human nature:nope:

Again, this applies as much to real-world life as it does to computer game development. I know that I work better when I think my efforts are appreciated; and I know that I'm less inclined to help someone who lays into me, calls me every name under the sun, and questions my parentage all because they're a bit upset that I haven't given them exactly what they want. I have to try to be professional, sure, but it's made a damn sight more difficult in the latter case. I don't think there're that many posts on here that go to those extremes - but there're a lot of people pouring a lot of negativity onto these boards, and I can't help but feel that the developers might be more encouraged to work harder for us, and to go on to produce more games for us, if they were offered a little more positive feedback - or at least if we could be a little less irate about the problems we bring to their attention.

Right, flame away...

Well said. Like your part as well about PCs being a difficult platform to build for. There is so much varied hardware that I am sure it must be hell to try to make a game that meets or is compliant with the various systems.

Good post, Rants can be positive as well. Nobody is turning a blind-eye to the current bugs issues with the game, I would not encourage that either, but people need to chill a bit and enjoy this sim for what it currently is and will be, a rocking, damn-fine sub-sim:rock::rock:

I agree the game is enjoyable, but some of the bugs have been bad enough to cause me to wait on the patch before I play again... I just don't want to ruin the fun by getting annoyed at the game.

I love the game, too much to not wait.

I am using the time to enjoy it for what it is, getting used to the differences from SH3 ( which took awhile ) plus experimenting with some of the mods that
are being put out:yep:

I had been looking forward to SH4 for a long time since I had good memories of SH1 and I have always been a PTO fanboy, but when I first saw all the negative posts, I seriously thought of not buying the game.

So far however, I am very happy, I have noticed a lot of improvements over SH3, both graphically and under the hood. The devs have done their homework, all the important stuff is in. Sure there are a few bugs and historical errors, but I'm certain the devs/modders will fix that, after all Sh3 was more or less in the same state just after release.

The game is stable, works well and I'm having fun, what else matters.

Nice perspective, people were and are to quick to jump all over it:yep::yep:

Plus with the new patch on the horizon :hmm:

I am have GWX:up: installed as well, so right now is the best of both worlds for
sub-simmers:lol:

Edit: Maybe it is because I am more of a casual skipper:yep:, but this game still rocks, despite its many issues. As I mentioned above  I have GWX as well, but people seem to want to compare SH4 with it, GWX only came out close to 2 years after SH3. What about comparing SH4 to its predecessor SH3 (Vanilla)?

It took 11 years to be back in a Fleet Boat*. Are there bugs? Yes. Can I think of any simulation coming out since about 1999 which did not have bugs? No. Is that a good thing? No, just a fact of life, just like that a patch is underway. Is the game playable? Heck yes. Calling the game unplayable like some do is nuts. What causes a CTD, the "A" key, is well known. Don't hit it - fixed. The calculation is not done properly for fast running torps? Run them slow. If you don't hit the target, the speed is not the problem, as I always run them slow and do hit. I heard they did that iRL anyway since the higher speed setting made the torps less reliable.
Sometimes I wonder if ppl sit in front of the computer and are indeed filing a list of things that bothers them and keep looking at it instead of playing the game. Same as with people looking at the FPS counter and are bothered if it peaks at anything below 100, never mind they won't actually be able to notice a difference from some 30 FPS upwards.

The game is not perfect and has bugs. And I'm enjoying the heck out of it. Just my 0.02$.

* PA notwithstanding, probably excellent mod, but unfortunately many of the really bad issues of SHII remained as they were hardcoded. Anyone who really wants to see a game gone wrong, take a look at SHII. ;)

PA got the most of it, otherwise SH2 was pretty much a disaster:yep:

In about 11 hours from now I hope to be in front of my pc installing it!?!?!?

Hey, nice pbase gallery you got! I'm a fellow Canon-dSLR fan, and really enjoyed watching; especially the Pittsburgh-gallery, as I'll be moving there for two years soon and don't really know what it's like.

SH4 has its bugs, certainly. But most games do when they're new. And of course we could argue that it shouldn't be that way; that games should be held back until they're found to be in perfect working order. Of course that's impractical in this money-driven corporate world. But as someone mentioned in a thread elsewhere, I always imagine how frustrated the actual developers must feel when they're forced by grasping publishers to release a game they haven't tested enough and know has flaws (First Encounters, anyone?).......................................... ................ little more positive feedback - or at least if we could be a little less irate about the problems we bring to their attention.

Right on NQ - I think many here are of the same mindset, but the "whiner crowd" is so loud and annoying, that yes, the do get noticed - unfortunately, much more than they should. Loud? Yes. Effective? I don't think so.

Losing the "black and white" thinking, and all-demanding mindset is a wonderful thing for everyone here, IMHO.

The game rocks. If you are considering buying it, by all means do it. I'm having a blast with it now, and it keeps getting better.

Mylander
