I don't know if you'll recognize this... He sounds like Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses. Very funny UK sitcom.

Payoff 10-25-06 09:12 AM

I always got a kick out of the flubbed line in Das Boot (English dubbed version),when after attacking the convoy, and about to be depth charged, Jurgen Prochnow says "This is it. Now we have the PAYOFF". The line should have been: Now its payback time.:arrgh!:

LZ_Baker 10-25-06 09:13 AM

I use to use my initals as my name but it was kinda a crappy name so I decided to come up with something else. My favorite game is Vietcong, so I wanted something that sounded like it belonged so I took the name of the building I liked in at the time and added LZ to it, so Landing Zone Baker

NightCrawler 10-25-06 09:40 AM

Gogs 10-25-06 09:50 AM

Gogs was an plasticine/clay model kids animation series from the 90s. A bunch of prehistoric characters running around doing funny things. I got the nickname but I'm not honestly sure why. It might be the looks I guess but I hope not.....:88)

Albrecht Von Hesse 10-25-06 10:10 AM

Mine was fairly easy: it's simply the Germanized version of my real name . . . with a 'von' tossed in for added prestige. ;)

Syxx_Killer 10-25-06 10:10 AM

Well, it has been so long that I have had the same screen name now, I think I forgot why I chose it exactly.:lol: Way back in 1998 and 1999 (seems so long ago, doesn't it?:-?), I was playing Novalogic's F-16 Multirole Fighter, MiG-29 Fulcrum, F-22 Raptor, and F-22 Lightning 3 online. F-16, MiG-29, and F-22 Raptor could all fight in the same online arenas. It was great back in the day and the last time I really ever playing anything online. Anyway, I was part of a squadron for the F-16. Then, I was going by the name Burner. I got tired of that. After the squad pretty much disbanded I started my own for the MiG-29 called the Russian Knights. It did very well. I changed my nickname to Volk, then. At first we just allowed players who flew the MiG-29. When the big, highly anticipated patch was released that allowed F-22 Raptor to fly the same skies as the F-16 and MiG-29 I made the decision to allow the F-16 and F-22 into the squad. When F-22 Lightning 3 was released about a year later (1999), the squad slowed down. I then made the decision to disband. Shortly after I joined a squad the Air Aces Squadron. That squad allowed the F-16, F-22 Raptor, MiG-29, and F-22 Lightning 3. I was eventually put in charge of the F-22 L3 division of the squad. That is when I changed my nickname to the one I have now. I wanted something that I could identify with when playing online as well as something unique and different. Since I was pretty good at coming up on people's 6's and killing them I came up with Syxx_Killer. At the time I was also playing Delta Force online, and the idea for my current name also worked for that game, too. I was thinking of six shooter pistols for some odd reason. The nickname really stuck then. I haven't played any of those awesome games in a very, very long time. MiG-29 was my most anticipated game ever. Nothing comes close to the suspense I had just before the release. The MiG-29 is my favorite fighter plane ever. Consequently, you can still buy the games I mentioned above from Novalogic's website. The only other sim I had played that featured the MiG-29 was a game of the same name by Domark. It ran on Windows 3.1, came on two or three floppies (I don't remember), and had the most aweful engine sounds I have ever heard (then or now). I usually just turned them off in the game. However, the scenarios that came with the game were really fun. I played that game for hours. I picked it up at a flea market for a couple bucks. I still have it sitting in the bottom drawer of my desk.

Here's a site about the game if anyone wants a trip down memory lane:

Sorry for the rambling post. I just get all nostalgic when talking about this stuff!:lol:

@ Syxx_Killer

No worries about the rant, it's exactly why I started this thread.:yep:

Sailor Steve 10-25-06 10:21 AM

I used to post on boards about naval history using my real name. When I came to Subsim I noticed a lot of people using screen names, so I decided to try the same.

As to the name, my avatar should say everything that needs to be said.

"Sailor Steve" Bradfield

Hybris 10-25-06 10:38 AM

On the Airfix Dogfighter the cheat code to get god mode was Hybris. I liked the name so I used it in PC Halo mulitiplayer were I earned the title "The god of Rocket Hog Drive-bys" so God...god mode Hybris!

So now at school everyone just calls me Hybris.

Pino_666 10-25-06 10:43 AM

Pino is the dutch name for Big Bird... and I made him evil :p

EmeAzul 10-25-06 10:43 AM

Mine stands for Blue M, written out in Portuguese. I used this name on a BMW board and just carried it over to Subsim.

My christian name Jim + mbuna (cichlid fish I breed from Lake Malawi) :D

Onkel Neal 10-25-06 12:11 PM

I use "Neal Stevens" because it sounds kind of generic and is easy to spell, and my agent said I cannot use my real name (Bruce Willis).
