Boy Ill say

Lets see uhh Dynamic Campaigns, New theater, Upgraded Graphics, better radio traffic, allegedly better AI (shrug) sounds like an improvement to me.

Personally I cant wait to try it.

Oh and kudos to the interviewer for slipping the word "paucity" in

TarJak 08-24-06 04:51 PM

I'm not saying that it's not an improvement what I'm saying is that there doesn't sound like enough improvement for me to race out a buy it when it is at it's peak price just because it is "New and Improved".

As always when I puchase a new game I have a look for a few weeks at what people are saying about it and what problems they are having before laying out cold hard cash for it.

kiwi_2005 08-24-06 05:07 PM

Well i'll be buying it no matter what, even if the game only let you command one type of sub i would still buy it. The important thing for me is its not going to be scripted campaign so therefore its a winner in my books. How many subsims come out compared to other games - buggar all. its like one every 5 yrs or so. And no doubt the modders will solve what ever faults we find with it.

Plus like in SH1, i wanna command a Gato class again!

I do the same, and will do for SHIV. However, my reason is different: This gives time for the development and release of the patches that will render the inevitable game-ruining bugs harmless. In fact, I did not purchase SHIII for nearly four months after it's release, allowing for patch 1.4b. I did not regret my decision, nor do I have plans to alter it, for as good as SHIII was, not enough time has elapsed to rid me of the memories of the horrendous Silent Hunter II/Destroyer Command debacle. Live and learn.

I bought SHIII before I had a computer that could run it. I, too, do not regret my decision. If I had waited until I was totally satisfied with the way it was modded I'd still be waiting today.

I intend to pre-order it as soon as it's available at the SubSim website.

Why..simply keep both installed..problem solved.

Or see if it's possible to import it?

By the way, isn`t that a Type VII in the trailer?!

See thats whats wrong with PC games right there. We should not NEED to fix any damn thing, nor add, nor even tinker with it. To need to do so only tells me its broken in the first place. Not the haul mark of a great game.

As to why I play SH3, because I'm a boating NUTTER, freely admited. But that doesnt mean I should have to bloody mod the damn thing just to fix bits that SHOULD have been done right from the begining. So here I am now stuck behind my PC fixing bits that are buggered instead of playing it. Why should I be doing the job of the dev's when I have paid for what should have been a finished product! But since its NOT anywhere near correct or finished and I luv my sea based games and I do so want to play a COMPLETE SH3 game I guess I'm gonna have to fix it now aint I! Just 1's I'd luv to get a game that I can put on my PC and play it and not have to be thinking "What the hell were they smoking, none of this is right" and it gets so bad that in the end I have to start tinkering just to get a bloody decent game. So yeah, if SH3 was so great there wouldnt be so many mods and fix's around that in the end its no longer the same game and NOW it becomes a great game.

Maybe I'm missing something here. But what needed so much fixing in SH3? I bought it and use no mods. Only patch upgrades. And I'm quite happy with it. SH3 has given me a great insight and gaming experience from the perspective of a German U-boat Captain. That's what I wanted, and that's what I got. And I have thoroughly enjoyed it. So I'm stumped to as how SH3 was not complete. I thought it was well done.:-?

Oh yeah, and SH4 definitely shows alot of improvements over SH3. And it will provide a complete new experience. Can't wait to drop the money for it and start sinking those Japanese warships.

I agree with SeaDeamon.SH3 ,athough not complete, with the 1.4b patch, was and is still played by some and can be a very good game to play. The mods -you(the great modders of the forum, who I thank very much for their work!) don't "have" to make them ,but you still do ,because they make the game better or perhaps "more complete" than the devs made it but all this is made ,you could say,in a pursuit of perfection. And such a thing (the PERFECT game/mod) is not and will probably never be possible. You could compare mods with evolution, and evolution will always happen ,no matter how good or complete the game is..
