Completely beyond me as to how this could be done/if at all. But it would be very cool if ships could be made to fire distress flares after being torpedo'd. It's probably not accurate historically. I doubt in wartime if any ship would be prepared to answer such a call, knowing there was a sub in the vicinity. However it would look good none the less.

Very nice mod! Thanks a lot!!

Though I can't get around to asking one question myself:
Do always all the ship types above have the lights, or is that date-specific (like the weaponry) or is there a random element involved, like with the cargo?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

Original files

Hi

I downloaded this mod and liked the idea of transport ships and cruisers getting search lamps but when I engaged a convoy I was lit up like a Xmas tree.

Can you add the original back up files to the modded ones in the RAR download

I would much appreciate it

Let there be light!

Great work on the lights! Got me killed right quick :hulk:

Any chance you could turn this around and give us a search light? Would be awesome for deep sea exploration. I am looking into fixing up an "Atlantis" mod for kicks.

I removed the lights from all but the Troop Transport and the Transport.Keeps it interesting

CCIP 09-22-05 02:39 PM

No, I don't think it's possible to get a working light on the sub - least not one you could actually use as you'd like to.

I'm sure it'd be easily possible with an SDK, but I think the SHIII mod community sounds like a broken record about that issue by now

Nice Mod. I wonder if a person could use that 'Randomizer batch' program used by Iambecomelife 'Merchant Skins Variety Pak' to give random ships lights, so that not all of them have one, and you would not really know which ships is going to light up the night?

You can change the dates when the lights get installed for more variety also. Plus use that simple batch program to make it so ships have lights at random, it would be a nice improvement on CCIP Liegh Lights Mod.

In IuB I only keep the leighlights on the aircraft. Merchants flicking on their lights makes them a lot easier to see during night operations, and hence, easier to sink.

I would imagine historically that ships would run blacked out all the time in convoys.

Jungman 10-01-05 10:25 AM

I thought the ships only flip on their lights when they get attacked?

oRGy 10-01-05 10:29 AM

I haven't tried. The DD's do it when they suspect your presence or when other ships have been attacked.

CCIP 10-01-05 01:33 PM

Nope. They flip them on whenever they get some indication of a target in proximity.

One neat thing is that if a ship in a convoy gets hit by a torpedo, ships on the side of the convoy where they think the torpedo came from put the lights on and search that side - even if you're somewhere in the middle of the convoy by that point

I like this mod very much, but prefer, like Jungman, some random element.

Could not the random folder in SH3 Commander be used? I've been looking at Beery's post on randomizing gramophone tracks -

http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopi...3fcff7950116a1

Could not a similar thing be done mixing CCIP's modded files and the the default ones? The date feature could also be used, perhaps making ships more likely to have searchlights as the war progresses.

In SH2 the merchants lighted up the sky with starshells didn't they ?

Wonder why the Devs did not code it in sh3 ? ( or did they and left it out ? )

CCIP 10-05-05 12:23 PM

No, they do use starshells, but I am not sure what the exact conditions for that are. The usage of starshells in SHIII seems to be somewhat rare - although I do see them fired every once in a while.

Have you played SH2 ? The merchants did use starshells.
