Wychwood Brewery: Hobgoblin 'Gold'
http://i.imgur.com/msFDvPs.jpg
I picked in the Kent hop-gardens as a kid and the smell of them is in my blood. I brought pieces of root with me when we moved to Lincolnshire over 30 years ago and it flourished here in the rich soil... now each September the fruiting heads are everywhere in the garden, throughout the hedges and the trees. Years ago Moira used to make the most beautiful golden wine from these hops and this beer reminded me of that favourite wine, with the resinous bitter tang lingering on the tongue. It's a golden colour, like the 'Wild Hare' pale ale, but stronger-tasting and more bitter. And only £1.25 a bottle in ALDI!! |
Roll on Saturday when I can drink two bottles of this..

Another 'golden' ale, Moira found this Welsh beer for me in the local 'Spar' shop... quite pricey at over £2.00. They explain on the label how the hops are added late in the brewing to improve the flavour, and I wouldn't have minded the higher price but I felt it had nowhere near as much going for it as the previous two beers I tried.

Ill say that this is one of my favorites- though i have more and more trouble finding it these days
Beer Name: Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat Brewer & Location: Leinenkugel's, Chippewa Falls Wisconsin http://www.theperfectlyhappyman.com/...nset-wheat.jpg Eye: in my opinion the perfect color for a wheat beer, golden hue Nose: aromatic head with heavy notes of citrus and berry Flavor: Clean, moist finish, very light on the palate Comments: perfect summer beer in my opinion, though available year round, i have had trouble finding it in the southern US though it can be found if you look hard enough. If i find it, I'll always buy it when and where available |
Latest addition to the beer emporium (garage).
Hops from the U.S. and New Zealand impart a peppery, lemon zest note to the Green Gecko, while pale and crystal malts add a rich biscuit character. http://i.imgur.com/Mohqc44.jpg Less than a pound per pint. |
I got a bottle of this. I'll let you know what it is like. My brother in law had a bottle. He said it was way over the line for stout beer. Too stout as put it.

Now "Guinness" have got into the 'golden ale' act, but although I was expecting great things I found this to be bland compared to the others, with no 'hoppiness' at all in the flavour; ABV 4.5 per cent.
