Not much chance of that in the UK this side of Christmas I'd say.

Met office forecast for Christmas day here has Santa in his flippers and snorkel.

So possibly you all might get a 'normal' winter? Cold and wet.

Pretty much, maybe a dusting of snow in the new year, which will send the country into shutdown mode.

Gone are the days where we could cope with stuff like this:

That was a good movie. Love the crack about the 'landladies cake'.

If you were to pay attention to environment Canada (weather.gc.ca) 2-4 centimeters would equate to 6 inches which is how much snow we got yesterday. 2.54 cm = one inch we should have gotten between .75 - 1.5 inches. Now I ask you where in heck did the other 4.5 inches come from?

I'm going out to plow again, I'm not complaining.

Winter all year round

I love the snow too, and I seem to be painting Winter scenes all year round because it obviously touches so many people in the same way. This is a small detail from one of my Winter paintings.

We're getting our first real taste of winter weather here, yesterday afternoon's rain turned to snow overnight and put a couple inches down by morning. Not sure how much accumulation we got total but it seems to have stopped as of lunchtime with only a few flurries here and there.

Temps keep dropping, though, supposed to be in the single digits* overnight tonight with wind chills below zero by tomorrow morning.

*all references to temperatures are in Fahrenheit, as God intended. :O:

:yeah:
I was educated in the Imperial system and I refuse to change. I can translate to Fahrenheit but would prefer not to.

I don't have 30 grand in Canadough or a place to store a big tractor. :(
I have two dead snow throwers out in the garage that need hauling to the scrap yard but, I do have a shovel.
I should just bite the bullet and go get a new thrower so my idiot stepson doesn't get his lazy arse stuck in the driveway with his low ground clearance car again.

swamprat69er 11-17-14 02:19 PM

Can you not make one out of the two?

Believe it or not, my tractor is not that big. Only 27 hp. S Korean made, assembled in USA. I do understand the lack of ca$h, tho.
Junior was working my walk behind 24" blower to death and freezing his nads off doing it. Three hours to do my driveway and the neighbours as well.
I just came in after 4 hours and plowed 4 driveways in a T-shirt. After I get the blower on I will be able to do the same 4 in about 2 hours and that is stopping to jaw with a few people as well.

In Moscow we tend to use manpower (with shovels) for the pedestrian side walks and such.

swamprat69er 11-17-14 02:49 PM

In Toronto they use 450 John Deere dozers for sidewalk plows as well as Cat D3's.

Doubt I'll be needing my woolen knickers this year....more likely a lifejacket.
