Once you get your satellite connection, slap an IPCOP box in front of it, which has SQUID on-board and will give you caching (you'll need an old PC with two network cards).

We used to put those on for Hughes customers and it would save about 30% of the bandwidth (you can also use it to block advertising before it gets downloaded which will also save a lot of bandwidth).

I'll have to go down to Radioshack and ask them about that.

Anyway, I'm running SpeedTest.net right now. I notice a difference in accessing Subsim...but I haven't tried it out yet.

Ooooooh. As I'm typing, it just finished.

4.95 Mbps DL
2.15 Mbps UL

A LOT better than what I had.

EDIT: WAIT HOLD UP...

I switched to a closer server and peaked at 19.83 on DL

Yeah you always have some fluctuation.

My speeds are dismal http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3169787496

And so begin the issues.

Certain websites are not working. Skype Test Call was flawless...but Facebook, Steam, GoG, Google and Gmail to name a few aren't loading. They just....stop.

"This Webpage is not Available"

:/\\!!

Sounds like it could be a dns configuration issue.

Tech Support is a woman.

We're doomed. :-?

Sorry, IPCOP is a free, downloadable firewall, not something from RadioShack (hence your need for an old PC).

LOL...don't say that to her or your problems will only escalate :)

Don't talk 'down' to her either.

Wolferz 12-17-13 01:17 PM
