You'll do anything to end that "The last one to post wins!"-thread in your favour, don't you?

My Dad was in SB several times when they played the classics festivals there, he said it was beautiful countryside, and very kind people, but overcrowded, due to the tourists.

I know the area between Bad Reichenhall and Salzburg from earlier holidays. Very beautiful place to live, both on the German and Austrian side of the border.

I had the pleasure of guarding one of Graz's more interesting features: the famous Graz Armory, left completely intact from the Moslem Turk's last invasion,(circa 1520's) was brought to the museum in San Francisco and opened by hometown hero Arnold Swartzenegger himself; fascinating armor exhibit! Rows of pikes and everyday armor for everyday Grazians defending their city from the Moslem terror of the day. Colin Farrel actually wears the correct 'closed' helmet from the era and the armory in the movie, 'The New World' and a similar helmet was found in a garbage dump in a early Virginia plantation garbage(National Geographic) dump that had been massacred by Powhaten Indians. Good Austrian military gear was widely marketed, even back then. :arrgh!:

They might not let you bring your firearms.

Happy or armed?

I prefer armed and happy.

Depends.

If you come to Europe thinking they'll be treated like kings with a ''Murica yeah'' attitude and not at least having a 5 minute read into a local custom then yes. We will hate you.

If you leave your politics and we're #1 mindset at home and just mingle without trying to show us superiority and learn something that is not US-centric, then we'll like you.

This is a good thread to tell you this. My cousin is marrying an American from Montana. He's moving here :)

I had a great experience in the Netherlands about 5 years ago.

Everyone spoke crisp English (with an american accent, I expected brit pronunciation) Alot of smiles, and even questions from total strangers about our country and customs, a very polite people.

American tourists can sometimes bring the entitled crap with them, not knowing they are guests, and should behave as so, respect local customs etc...I seen it when I visited London in my youth, and watched stupid tourists poke at the Buckingham Palace guards.

They really should be allowed to beat people with their rifle butts.

Good luck to your cousin and the groom.

...so if you're wearing LEDERhosen, will you be wearing a "Triumph" or "Harley-Davidson" shirt?

That is just NOT true!

Laugh at you behind your back, sure. But hate?

Well, maybe a little loathing, but not real hate. :D

Hey, the carbon dioxide must be building up down here at twelve meters! Our beloved Fuhrer, Adolph, comes from Austria and our equally revered Herr Onkel is RETIRING to Austria and the loss of the esteemed Archduke Franz started the whole thing...It's a conspiracy! Throw in Marie Antoinette(the big razor) and Mexico's Maximilan (Fuego) and Arnold the Gubernator (married to a Kennedy...once), all Austrians, and the plot thickens...We need a new thread for this one!:k_confused:
