Personally I feel that people these days have a bad impression about humanity because the media always focuses on the bad and not very much on the good.
for example a few weeks ago a guy in Philly saved another man who had fallen onto the subway tracks that hardly got noticed while the New York subway pusher got mentioned for days on the news. The lame stream media(all of them CNN,Fox,NBC) are bunch of money grabbing pessimists. That is not to say that there are screwed up people and screwed up things happening but that is what gets the attention."If it bleeds it leads". You just have to rise above the the bad and focus on the good and do good yourself and not for the attention of it but because you really want to often a good deed is usually the more difficult route. It is easier to hate or be indifferent towards someone than it is to love them.Apathy is the worst human trait. |

The title of the thread is about restoring faith, meaning something has vanished before. This is directly connected to negative experiences = what we hate about people. The question if we, as the human race are good or bad, is still out, I don't see Oberon making a statement into any direction. Even Ducimus, who says he has little faith in humanity called the video "touching". Also he states his reasons/experiences why he has a negative outlook. Further he refrained from a rant about Californians (which I personally would have liked to read, but I'm also just a negative person:)). RedOctober, hasn't seen the vid, but says he also has no faith in humans. I certainly can't blame any of them for their views- :shifty: Regarding the vid: I don't equal mocking with hate - the first one is much healthier for us than the second.:) Well, in my next response to Steve I'll write something positive. :sunny: Quote:
After some beach vacation in the Netherlands with two friends, we spontaniously decided to stay a day longer and check out Amsterdam - so we were not the best prepared tourists in terms of where to go and what to see ;). A homeless guy approached us and talked to us for a while, then offered us to show us a little around. It was a great experience. As we were teens, we were chronicly low on cash, he showed us where the natives buy food and drinks, a gigantic price difference to the tourist shops! Also he showed us some off the beaten path stuff, in some little side streets, where we normally wouldn't have gone, as a they didn't look too interesting on the first glance. Told us which museums are cool and which are nothing but tourist traps (sadly didn't really have the time to visit one) Of course we were a little sceptical first, but the guy was really genuine - it helped us that we were also "street smart" in our judgement. He was pretty proud of his hometown so he just showed us around, he was also interested in hearing stuff about the town we came from, so we exchanged many stories. All he wanted in exchange was some puffs from the reefer we rolled, when we sat down in a park to relax - which we would have shared with him anyway. Though he didn't ask for it, we gave him some extra pot as a little tip when we left. If it was just some kind of business model for this guy, well it worked, though he probably would had made more money during the time he spent with us with begging - or mugging us :arrgh!: Maybe he was just some random good person. |
