I love these moments...."SHIP SPOTTET!!!" Then the dramatical battle music starts. You go to Periscope depth and search. THEN! SUDDENLY! a sailing ship...... :o deeper LI fast! silent running!!

The patrol of my life.
I am having a stellar run of luck in early 1940. Every torpedo I fire hits head on (or abeam). Every airplane is missing, then dying to my amazing gunners. I circled around and sunk a destroyer who was depth charging me for HOURS!
43k+ tonnage with 6 forward and 2 aft eels left. My square is uneventful at the moment and plan on raiding French ports and shipping until I expell all ordinance. I will award extra medals to my gunners (deck and flak) as well to my torpedo officer. (thanks sh3 commander) I hope I didn't jinx myself with this.:D I aint back at port yet:03: I usually die horribly after I get happy about good patrols.:har: |

My point is that there is not enough evidence one way or the other to say for certain how effective it was. Or is there? I don't know, which is why I'm asking. |

The british navy were able to catch a message of the germans where U-480 wrote "Alberich works!" but they didn't even know what Alberich was to this time. They first though it is some kind which makes the submarine more survival against Depth Charges and just after long time they recognized that it is some kind of stealth technic. U-480 was never found becaus even modern sonars couldn't detect it. It was found after a fishingboat lost its net at the submarine. Before no one knowed where U-480 sunk. Quote:

http://www.uboataces.com/sonar-coating.shtml On the other hand the Wiki article claims it reduced sonar effectiveness from an optimal range of 2000 meters to around 300 meters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anechoic_tile And it's used on all modern subs, so it must have some advantages. I'm only suggesting that it shouldn't make you invisible. Harder to find, sure, but no impossible. As to how the game works, I have no clue, never having been outside 1940. |

http://books.google.com/books?id=gDP...oating&f=false You say you want realism, but how realistic is it to have alberich at all? How many u-boats were actually treated? How many escapes can be attributed to alberich? In the old statistician's saying, "Once is not a trend". |
