Better qualify that statement.

I don't mind patriotism or nationalism - though I feel there is negative stigma attached to that word, of course depends who uses it - but in Scotland the brand of nationalism that has come about with the SNP is the blame England for anything.

I fear history is to blame for the burden of this chip, not just the SNP.

I don't think that Culloden has ever been forgiven has it.

Yup, deep-fried and on the inside what you actually get is a mars bar, not a chip, but I see where you're going with this. Just as well really... all of that boozing, smoking and fatty foods, without it the population might be such that the scots get to have more mp's in our parliament. :o

Statement qualified!

Seriously the deep fried mars bar. Only in Scotland. Probably some hun who came up with it.

Saying that I can't complain as I live in one of the safest parts of the country and being in the oil industry have reasonably secure job prospects.

to our foreign friends. When I say Hun I mean a Glasgow Rangers supporter or Gers supporter = Hun

Sailor Steve 02-05-11 11:19 AM

Glad you cleared that up. I thought you were blaming one of the Georges. :sunny:

If you were descended from a Highlander and needed a reaaaally tenuous excuse to justify your Anglophobia, then maybe. It's worth pointing out to people that the 1745 Rebellion was a war between Protestant Scots and English against a foreign-born Catholic prince who barely spoke English (and who, like the rest of his family, was keen on the idea of King as a divinely-appointed autocrat), and the Gaelic-speaking Catholic Highlanders who supported him - not a simple "England vs Scotland" affair.

As far as the SNP go, I wouldn't **** in their mouths if they were dying of starvation. Despite their excuses, the fact is that the majority of their grassroots support is based on plain old ugly Anglophobia. I can't think of another group in the UK which is more responsible for fostering bigotry and outright hatred. The only group that is worse are the Engurlanders, and even then they're largely a reaction to Welsh and Scottish nationalism.

XabbaRus 02-05-11 03:25 PM

too true..

papa_smurf 02-05-11 05:25 PM

If you really want to put outsiders off, give them some Black pudding:
Black pudding is usually a blend of onions, pork fat, oatmeal, flavourings - and blood (usually from a pig):D
