I'm just the opposite. I joined one forum because several of my friends were already on it. I still see them, but I don't go there anymore.

On the other hand, I did get to one of the Subsim meetings, but had to miss three others. It was fun talking to people I knew from here, and I really regret the missed opportunities to meet some of the others.

The reason I faded from other forums but stick with Subsim is, quite simply, the number of people who are willing to act as if we were actually sitting in a room talking to each other. I find respect, reason and companionship here like no other internet site I've been on.

Over the years I've dropped in the odd forum to get an answer to a specific technical question, but subsim is the only one I've used regarding a game, and the only one to even make me want to come back. The others just seem to be very 'I'm better then you because I know the answer.' This was very much apparant in one other forum I visited after having such a good time here - almost every single new person's question was aggresively directed towards another part of the forum.

It's almost unusual to find a decent place to hang out online. The last awesome forum I remember sticking with for any length of time was a Myst fan forum. Then I found Subsim. What a stroke of luck. :DL
