I hope someone remakes for orbiter 2010 :
  • world of 2001
  • the mercury space program
  • NASSP if its ever going to go beyond alfa/beta status
  • to the moon in 24 hours (this is one of the best orbiter addons ever !!! )
  • a 100% working implementation of opengl plugin so I can finally use orbiter under linux.
  • space shuttle ultra completed, right now its kind of incomplete.

Those plus the full shuttle fleet with all the addons and missions associated with it (with the exception of the linux thing) are the only reasons that I'm keeping Orbiter 2006 on my hard drive along with Orbiter 2010.

Some Updates

Post number 10 in the following thread hints that Vinka is rewriting his Spacecraft dll's:

I read rumor last night of an update coming for the World of 2001 addon... I'm looking for that thread right now... *tick tock tick tock* EDIT: Okay, I may have been mistaken (or not), but page four of the World of 2001 thread shows some recent (positive) activity.

Nautilus' custom Canaveral textures don't work with the new scenery. Seems to work okay i you just delete them and live without, if you happen to have Earth L14 loaded.
tylrsn's HAL9000 MFD doesn't work under 2010. Or rather, it runs, but something is wrong with the texture mapping, and only half the display is visible.

Some Wo2k1 scenarios are dependent on dbartles' pod, which is also not working under 2010. I have no control over that.

I hadn't even heard of that addon when I had 2006P1, so I'm guessing those are all Wo2001 ships?

I'm also hoping that To The Moon in 24 Hours gets an update. The boosters from that addon always find themselves strapped on to some dreadfully ugly, behemoth contraption parked in LEO. :D

Good to see world of 2001 may be updated for Orbiter 2010.
The main website last news dated from 2007 so i had few hope.

Hang out at Orbiter-Forum. ;) That's where most of the buzz is coming from I think. I've been checking the Addons and Addon Dev forums a lot these past few days.

Kulch's Energia-2 Project

This dude is a mad genius. The page is in Russian, but the images tell a pretty good story.

EDIT: More From The Station

Didn't realize how large these components are until I went EVA. Hanging out by the P3P4 solar panels. :D

Shuttle Fleet update for 2010 is soon to be released.

I'm putting the finishing touches on the next version of the Shuttle Fleet for Orbiter 2010. I don't think this will be a beta release, but rather a full release of the fleet. I have the documentation to update, and the scenarios to check one more time, but I should be releasing it by this weekend.

Oh yeah, I have made it UMmu compatible. The spacesuits are different, but I think it's a good move overall. Also updated to Orbitersound 3.5.

Shuttle Fleet 4.5 released for Orbiter 2010. Details and download:

Hail Probe! :DL ;)

Haven't really gotten into Orbiter 2010 yet, I've been on a long break from Orbiting.

Hail Probe! I haven't found all of the differences in 2010 yet, but the most obvious change is that scenarios load up much, much quicker now. Doc added a new atmosphere model, too, although I haven't yet figured out what effect that has during atmospheric flight.

Robsoie 07-06-10 10:03 AM

Additionally, the Map MFD is much much better in Orbiter 2010 than in 2006 too.
There's a lot of new toys for modders and coders too, so possibly even much more awesome addons will be released in the future.

Hello! I discovered Orbiter from this thread. I have never even heard about it before but it sounded so interesting I downloaded it. I've installed these mods:

-Shuttle Fleet V4.5
-Wideawake International
-UCGO 2.0
-OrbiterSound mod
-UniversalMMu

Are there any other good mods out there I should download?

Edit: Okay, I tried it a bit and realized I did not understand anything about it. Where should I start?

http://www.aovi93.dsl.pipex.com/play_in_space.htm

best intro guide I know of, though it's a little dated.

The guide uses IMFD though for transorbital injections not TransX, but I prefer IMFD myself. Though be aware that the guide is a bit behind and may not match up exactly with the current version of IMFD.

IMFD

There are also lots of useful MFD's you can grab from orbiterhanger (link below). You may also want to find yourself a good deep space ship with docking ports (one of my favorite things is touring the solar system with one and a delta glider for exploring planets). Lots of other nice addons too.

You could also checkout NNASP, though I don't know if it works with 2010.

As far as doing something with Project Apollo for Orbiter, especially if you are new to the sim, go with AMSO. Looks just as good or better then NASSP, and easier to get into. NASSP is great, but has a long learning curve.

AMSO plugs right into Orbiter 2010, real easy to install. Get it here-

As for add-ons, I use a couple of different spaceplanes:

DanSteph's DGIV-2
XR-2 Ravenstar (EDIT - I see that NeonSamurai already linked in Doug's Orbiter Page)
I almost forgot the TX with the Total Immersion virtual cockpit by vchamp.

For most of my heavy-lift delivery needs I rely on a combination of Kulch's Energia, Space Tugs, and Space Tankers. If you're ever interested in station building I highly recommend having a look at the Francophone Orbiter Community Website (Station Modules section). You can also find some really well made examples of CTV, and Progress vehicles in their Spacecraft section.

For MFD addons, the one I use the most is Attitude MFD V3.2. I find it very useful during docking approaches and for holding station with respect to another vessel (also very helpful during EVA).

There is also a UMMU/UCGO'd International Space Station :D:

I'll dig around for some resources that helped get me started with Orbiter.
