And...if you scroll the map up a bit further up you will see Vigan...follow the instructions in my previous post (I assume you know how to use ruler and tool helper - if not shout)

This will put you smack in line with another convoy....just sit and wait.

Keep close after tangling with the first Task Force in Lingayen Gulf. Go due east and run a zig zag pattern north, covering a a 20 to 30 KN radius...you should run in to two of these...

About the Convoy you will be chasing in the Gulf, if you stalk them from the rear, they should stop about 10 KN from shore. Water is deep, so take your time and pop up on the middle of them.

I realize this is an old thread, but I am new to this game and need some clarification. I intend to take out the Port Moresby force, and my understanding from this thread is that the task forces do not quite follow the same historical courses, and approaches; is that correct?

I have TMO with patch 1.4.

Thanks!

I think RSRDC makes them more historical

PapaWulf 01-24-15 10:20 PM

Tried getting RSRD to work, but it caused my game to crash for some reason right as it loads a new campaign.

I guess I will need to patrol the archipelago east of Port Moresby between May 1-9, and hope I get lucky.

If your running the correct version of TMO with the correct version of RSRD and have started a new career not continued an old then it will work properly.

Alrighty then, seems I have some work to do lol.

There are several version of TMO and RSRD. You have to make sure you run the correct versions that work together and make sure your mod order is set up correctly or errors will occur.

Ah, I remember that old battle from years ago, since the group was going fast, the best I could do was stay on the left flank that night and they had a 1kt speed advantage. I didn't think I would get a shot, but they turned south towards me. I knew the Port Moresby group returned towards Rabaul, so I hauled butt there after I sunk the carriers and caught them returning at night.

Usually the best place to ambush the Coral TF is to sit about 20nms south of San Cristobal as they come around it. All the locations can be easily found on the sinking SS if u use RSRD.

If you want to really have fun with RSRD, the Solomons campaign you can see some great action and battles. You really want to do the Battle of Savo. Fun watching a large Jap TF coming in around Savo to take on the waiting allied TF. The Japs will wipe this force out, but if you get your attack in before they come around Savo and sink one of the BB's and damage the other, then haul butt and reload you can join the battle as the TF duke it out. If you help enough, can you turn the tide of battle for the allies....? Fun to do.

These are good battle animations and all are in RSRD. You certainly want to be in the Solomons to see action May through about Dec. The animations show the battles in detail.

I've hit that San Cristobal TF myself. It is fun to find those.

Armistead 01-27-15 09:16 PM

yea, i was sitting there once waiting for the jap tf and sank a us carrier. i knew the japs came through there, but forgot the us carriers basically did the day before and stormy weather got the best set up i could and let go all 10 at the group....saw the explosions and was like yippie, then when it sank got the message....was like, oops....the fun of no cams or contacts..

Sandman_28054 01-28-15 09:08 PM

I left Pearl April 10, 1942 headed down to the Coral Sea, thought maybe I could get in on the action. SSW at 10 knts.

Missed it all. Couldn't find squat. Cruised the whole area looking. Even went to wikipedia to get precise routes, and still missed it.

Back to Pearl.

Reloaded mission, went to recon Osaka.

Took damage from bunkers, but managed to stay underwater.

Took pictures, and proceeded back out.

Around area 6c, back to 10 knts, along the 29th degree mark. Up to 178.18E. 23.35N. Waited a toal of 5 days for Midway task force.

Sank 4 Fubuki DD's, 2 Kongo BB's, 1 Yamato class BB. (cuties helped a bunch) 1 Chitose Seaplane tender, 1 Hiro escort carrier. Total: 141632 tons.

Armistead 01-29-15 10:55 PM

what mods u using, u can't miss it if you use the coords in my SS if u use RSRD....

Admiral Halsey 01-29-15 11:10 PM

Haven't gone after the Coral Sea ships yet. Personally I like hanging around Savo island during fall and winter.

Armistead 01-30-15 01:47 PM

Think the first battle around Savo is early August and they go on through Nov when it becomes intense. Before that, gets a lil boring, but some large action takes place in Oct.

Still, earlier on several large jap convoys land troops on Guadalcanal and if you wait, you can catch them sitting still unloading.... Heck, even some US PT boats get in the action with RSRD...
