Hi, only thing I may do and if I can scrap up some money is buy an external hard rive for this and any mods or expansions for it. basicaly a whole hd to it. I like to keep naval sims separate from other games.:)

I am upgrading my video card but not just for silent hunter 5..Silent hunter 5 was just the nail sticking through the chair telling me to get off my ass and retire that good old 8600GT(I will miss her she was the best card I ever had for overclocking)anyways.....
MY two cents as follows..... Like others say here build your own PC..I do..Its better in the long run and cheaper to upgrade over time..If you spend a few dollars dollars more and get a good motherboard/case/psu then the only thing you need to upgrade over a two year period will be your video card..If you shop around and do some research before you buy any part for your PC you will come out way ahead in the long run....I have to do things wise and on a budget because I have two kids who both have there own computers I have to upgrade over time also.. two choices is missing from the poll, I think:
3) I don't need an upgrade, I presume my pc can handle the game 4) I can't afford an upgrade. If SH5 runs okay on low settings, that will do for now... Personally, I think mine will do, both laptop and desktop, but I really don't know for sure now, so if any of them doesn't, it will be later, when I have a better job... |
I've been nursing my motherboard along for like 5 years... swapping out the graphics cards has basically allowed me to get along just fine.
About 3 months ago the mobo chip fan crapped out and I'm hoping it'll limp along til March; then I'll probably replace the mobo and CPU, and maybe pickup a little more RAM. I'm guessing it'll run in the $500-600 range, not too bad. Right now the CPU is adequate for all games, but definitely the bottleneck to target for the next uprgrade. |

I've upgraded my computer Feb09, this has to be sufficient for a couple of years.
I'm pretty much used to not playing games with full graphical settings anyways. And I don't feel like I missed out on very much. |
I built my new pc last weekend, yes also for sh5 but for other modern games too.
New system is flying :yeah: Just wish I could get sh3 to run om my win7 64 bit system, no luck so far... :damn: |
Buying a new pc this spring and using Silent Hunter 5 as the excuse to the wife . . .
. . . Honey, you know how much I love you, but the old Dell just won't play the game. If I don't play SHV, then I have to start paying attention to YOU! And you told me to get a new hobby . . . |
Yep, Im still rolling with a pc that i had before SH3. LOL
|
New HD but I had planned that for 7 anyhow. We'll see how the 512/3650 handles it. I think a 2.8 dual core should deal with this game fine, I mean what the frack. Got one of those obnoxious sunbeam coolers, she will not overheat even with GRAWII maxed. Can OC up to 3.2 but I'd rather run stock.

Just upgraded for Empire_Total War; all set for when SHV hits the shelves!
