Getting the documents was fine, thanks mainly to you for your great high-resolution scans. It all fell apart at the document cleanup stage. I'm useless at graphics. LzZ was very helpful, but recognised his limitations. I asked a few of the "better known" graphic artists whether they could help clean up the files (mainly by PM), as well as in my thread, but didn't get too far. Not their fault of course - RL should override anything games related.

Anyway, you can see where I got up to in the thread linked above, as I pretty much posted SH3Cmdr-generated examples, warts and all, of each certificate.

Ah, right. I forgot the thread at some point, so.

I think those documents would be maybe the best to do again from scratch, easy and quick job and would make it look consistent with any "new" text that SH3cmdr adds i.e. the captain's name. :hmmm:

what i was thinking is this:
as youre laying on your bunk enduring yet more depthcharging, you look at the wood panelling at the end of your bunk. hanging up is your shore tunic ready for your next return.
- as your rank changes or you are decorated, your uniform tunic is modified to reflect it. simple idea huh?

whilst on the subject; white captains cap. when your POV is from the bunk as you pan the view, you should also get a view of your cap sitting on your desk. caps are very individual and can be stylised, so how about selecting one from a drop list?

personalising the sub. how about adding several pictures on walls or in frames. these should be modifiable to reflect your story. also posters that can be modifiable/personalised to suit too.

the boats flag should be flying on the pole on the wintergarden. if i want to alter it to fly the skull and crossbones then i should. is that too hard?

personalisation engenders ownership to the whole thing. it should be a priority.:arrgh!:

I like very much the idea of the Dönitz/Flotilla chief (Not Adolf, please, would sure attract lots of legal issues against the game. Let the modders do that later in any case) screen/footage awarding the medals.

The only thing I would beg is please do not make it 3D if the devs can't provide good 3D human models. For me nothing kills more the inmersion of the scene than seeing unhuman cyborgs moving around. :nope:

Hadn't considered that, but that's cool idea... :)

I'd like to see more to this. the 2d box cut-out thing is pretty weak. www w w wtf, my right shift doesn't work1 feels like there's something stuck in there.

anyway, I do think it could be better. If there's a 3d model of a guy, he better have eyes at least. :dead:

:rotfl2:I didn't know Topp wore glasses..

Was he somehow distantly related to Buddy Holly?:O:

Seriously, I just read an article and saw a vew screenshot where the upcoming "Storm of War" combat flight sim is including all 3D animated pilots and crew. The early pictures look outstanding.

In addition Oleg Maddox ws quoted as saying it will include the ability to modify the uniform, modify the facial features to whatever you desire or use a feature which will map your photo onto the player facial image area.

Usually games about WW2 have 2 versions, with and without the "thingie". I for one prefer the German cross any day and the only Conning tower emblem I've ever used was "Fur Deutchland".

But after reading this (taken from wikipedia), I think games should substitute the swastika with a simple black X.

In spring 2007 a petition to the parliament (the Bundestag) to reintroduce the Iron Cross as an award for military bravery was initiated. The parliament decided on 13 December 2007 to leave it to the Ministry of Defence to decide on the matter[8]. The proposal was supported by the President of the Reservistenverband, Ernst-Reinhard Beck (CDU). Beck stated that the symbol was used as the symbol of all German military vehicles, airplanes and ships, and constituted a symbol of hope, aid and solidarity in crisis areas[9][10].

Germans

It used to bother me that when it came to the German decorations in WWII games they were inevitably shown 'de-nazified' as in the post-war period, but that's usually one of the first things modders attend to anyhow, so it's ok by me.

Those things are usually pretty easily 'fixed'...

Lord Justice 11-20-09 07:43 AM

well thanx for all input on this post some great ideas i really warm to the idea of the uniform in captains room changing with promotion and medals alike to view rather than the old box, hope they immplement something. cheers :salute:

It's probably better to release the game like that. As mentioned before, a Swastika is illegal in Germany, and accurate depictions would probably stir up a bit of controversy. We need as many people as possible buying SH to keep the series going, so that's something it can do without. :yep:

A lot of focus seems to be placed on immersion, more so than in previous releases at least. Having a bit of a ceremony depicted when medals and promotions are awarded should fit in nicely with that goal.

A bit of personalization around the boat, and being able to gander at your cap and tunic would as well.

I can go without Adolf though, but Dowly's proposal is more than acceptable. :salute:

THE_MASK 12-16-09 02:12 PM

Great idea, add greatly to the immersion and modders could add there own video as well, it would. Hmmmmmm.

Maybe even have the option to show (some) of the awards as ribbon bars instead of badges.

something like this (taken from old sim: Luftwaffe Commander)

Yes, with the correct uniform, it would be very good.
