1. Unless it's absolutely awesome, figure out how to replace the main menu music with the GWX menu music. That music has just become so ingrained in me that I don't think it would be Silent Hunter to me without it. :yeah:

:rotfl2:

I'm just the opposite. One of the first things I did with SH3 was replace the menu music with the one from the original SH2 DBSM. When I load up SH3 I hear the scene from Das Boot with the three leads walking through the u-boat bunker.

A link to that would be very much appreciated my friend.

1) Install the game.

2) Crack open my copy of Talbot-Booth's Merchant Ships (1942 edition).

3) Look at the merchant ships in Museum mode, oohing, ahhing, & griping.

4) Open the data folder, or its equivalent.

5) Start toiling on new merchant ship skins (or models, depending on what's possible.) :D

Interesting how many people have listed "install" as "the first ... you will do when you load up SHV for the first time?". :hmmm:

Me, I would have already installed it (hard to load it up otherwise ;)), so I guess the first thing I'll do is watch the intro movie. That should fill in 20 seconds.

Once the game finishes loading, I'll prolly stare a bit at the main menu screen for a few seconds. Having by then read all three paragraphs of the game manual (the remaining 30 pages cover Ubi copyright and the 1900 support number at $6.50 a minute), I will select the "Options" option and tweak to my desire, while being quietly chuffed that there are both malfunctions and sabotage options available.

I'll then check out the Museum, hoping to see an interface more akin to SH3's than SH4's. I will be disappointed, but not surprised, when I don't see a Bathurst Class adorning the Aussie Roster. I guess I should just be happy with the fact that there will at least be an Aussie Roster included.

Then I'll start a new Sep 1939 career and complete one patrol.

That's the first five things covered.

Then I'll exit SH5 and visit here to read all the complaints about Wolfpacks being either a) not in at all b) too arcadish or c) too few.

Then I'll spend the next <insert lifespan of game here> modding/testing and essentially doing everything *but* playing the game! First (personal) mod will be to remove the intro movie.

  1. Kiss the wife and kids goodbye
  2. Check out the intro
  3. Start the Naval Academy and go round the boat looking for soup.
  4. work out how to turn on and off the annoying bits.
  5. Fire up a career game in 1939 and go hunting.

1a. Check if it works with NVIDIA 3D Vision!!!

1b. Check if it works with NVIDIA 3D Vision!!!

1c. Check if it works with NVIDIA 3D Vision!!!

2a. If it works, drool extensively by exploring the museum and all the sub stations checking all minimal details with my 3D glasses on...:D:woot:

2b. If it doesn't work correctly. Blame developers and Ubi, and wondering why they didn't it compatible !! After all ubi, signed the nvidia 3d vision endorsement... :stare:

3. Academy

4. Start patrol 1939

5. Enjoy (I hope) during hours/days/months...

Seriously, why developers don't answer a "simple" question about if it will have support or not for 3D Vision?? The fact SH5 is developed on the platform of SH4 scares me. SH4 was not very compatible with 3D Vision...

Uber Gruber 10-19-09 07:34 AM

1) Go and have a pooh whilst it loads.
2) Make a cup of coffee
3) Might phone a mate to see if he fancies a pint later
4) Check the football results
5) Spank the cat.
