Gladiator and Commander are on the same level IMHO but Gladiator wins hands down music wise....and whilst on the theme of Zimmer music, I'm suprised nobody has made reference to possibly his best musical selection (film wise)...King Arthur.

I have not seen King Arthur. In my house when it comes to moves if it does not open with a fairy flying around a castle and a stupid big eared rodent named Mickey we normally do not watch it. So, yeah, if you want intellectual conversation on any Disney movie I'm there. Above and beyond that it is shakey at best.:-?

If you enjoyed Gladiator I'm pretty confident you would like King Arthur.

Speaking of gladiator anyone else recognize some of the music in it being similar to a Simulation we hold dear?

I have watched this movie a few times on Hulu.com, but alas they have removed it.

Hmm Where's my ship of the line. I want to see some ships of the line in action.

HMS Surprise has been exploited far too many times. Please spend SOME money on building some ships of the line :O:

I have not seen it either but I think I will. My all time favorite is Gladiator. If this is anywhere near close to that storyline and performance then I'm all over it.

In my opinion, Master and Commander is one of the best movies of its kind - nothwitstanding "Hornblower", starring Gregory Peck. As a matter of fact the story line, and place, very much resembles Captain Hornblowers escapades with his frigate Lydia. Of course, Hornblower was a totally different sort of guy (according to Forester). Shy and with little confidence in himself. However, when the **** hit the fan he sort of woke up and performed wonderful feats.

Beware though, when I had seen the Master and Commander movie I couldn't stop buying the books which the film was based upon - by the author Patrick O'Brian. Read them all within 3 months. 18 books, was it...?

As important as Russel Crowe is it to have Paul Bettany participate in the new movie, acting as his friend and ship's doctor Maturin. Just my opinion. In the books Maturin has a much more prominent role - acting as an undercover agent for the admiralty. Lucky Jake doesn't have a clue on this - he is really just a simple guy with great instict for a good fight. Maturin is the brain with a dark catholic past and large properties in a country occupied by Napoleon's forces - Spain. He is really a nobleman often stepping into enemy country on undercover missions. Jake Aubrey is only happy to oblige - and in fact ordered so by the Admiralty. These possibilities of covert action were not made use of at all in the first movie.

It is unfortunate that movies more often than not leave out a lot of content that generally makes the book overall better than the movie could ever depict. My classic example is Stephen Kinds 'Christine'. The book was fantastic. The movie missed so much and it also demonized the car when in fact the original owner of the car after he dies is the one who is the actual demon and uses the car to kill. He then possess the main character of the book who purchases the car from the original owner. All fo that is missed in the movie. Such a shame because Stephen Kings original work was much more creative than what the producers came up with for the movie.

I'd see it, But it would need most of the original cast to return to make it work.

Master & Commander made me fall asleep it just didn't grab me like most of Crows movies have, I liked him in Gladiator, state of play, LA confidential 3:10 to yuma, & that skinhead in Romper Stomper to name a few. I still reckon he should of played King Leonidas in 300 :yep: :o
