I like gore, but do you have to use that over-the-shoulder-view all the time? hate that.

Okie, a very quick first look. Only played for an 45min or so.
I definitely like it, well, maybe a better way is to say I dont dislike it as I've too little to actually make my mind about it. The graphics are pretty nice, obviously, lot has been put into the lighting and shadows. Runs very well, can have everything on high and no stuttering at all. The HUD is pretty innovative. There's no traditional HUD at all, you see your health from your characters back, where there are 4 lights; lose one health, one light goes out. The inventory, map, briefing etc. etc. screens are all projected as holograms right in-front of you, I like this one alot as you can keep on doing what you do while you listen to someone speaking to you or you are watching video logs as as soon as you need to use your weapon, the hologram goes away, BUT the audio still plays. The horror element is the usual, atleast for the 45min I tried it. You walk around in the corridors of the spaceship and see & hear things that make you jump once in awhile. And of course, there's the mandatory "loud sound in another direction, monster coming from the other"-moments. But it's ok, I couldnt imagine it done any other way, tho who knows what the story brings. :hmm: For EA game, this one has TONS of gore. Mutilated corpses everywhere, lots of blood and you can shoot/punch/kick limbs off the monsters/corpses. It is even encouraged to shoot off the limbs of your enemies as it gives extra damage and naturally it's much easier to kill the baddie by shooting it's legs off and running next to it to introduce Mr.Boot to it's neck, decapitating the poor thingy. More when I get change to play it more. |
I played Dead Space to approximately half-way thorugh in two sittings (then I got stuck and had to check from a walkthorugh). By then, I'd gotten bored, then annoyed, then like I'd been ripped-off. Then I uninstalled it and threw it it the bin, heh. A bit extreme reaction perhaps since it isn't all that bad game as such. Graphics are nice and especially the sounds are good, for instance on level three in the engine compartment. The overhead camera and controls are yet another clumsy and clunky console ports but nothing you can't live with. It's the whole package that fails-a cheap rip-off of System Shock 2 and Bioshock for fanboys, very short with practically zero replay value. Nothing about 'horror' or 'survival', just 'Boo, lights out, emergency lights kick in and here comes the freaks',I mean 'monsters'. In the end (or midway) I couldn't care less for the ship's crew, my buddies or even myself enough to see how the game ends. Waste of time and money.

Just did a quick read on the FarCry 2 thing. So you can 'revoke' an activation if you uninstall it properly. OK but I'm curious about how one would handle a situation like a hard drive failure or something that would otherwise prevent a 'proper' uninstall. That's when you have to call right? At least this isn't too bad. Apparently you can have it installed on up to 3 different pc's. I wonder if lan play is possible with the same copy. That would be convenient. Roll out some coop games, EA, for god's sake. So many games out that are begging to be played cooperatively. Quote:

I say wait abit a few months. Till they iron out all the issues. At least by then you will have a crack to use so you don't have to worry about the DRMs screwing up your computer. Good hunting. Please, don't advocated cracking games. Read the forum rules: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/faq.php?faq=susbim_faq_item#faq_rules2_faq_item -- Forum moderator |
