Of the mods I've use or am using, the only one I think came like that (exe compressed into zip) was GWX... All mods I'm using (quite a few!) come as a zipped JSGM compatible series of folders, but I may be missing something.
And of course this site is absolutely trustworthy, I've never had any problem, virus or other kind! :) |

its the same thing for the most part, a virus just needs a file that either opens itself or one you unzip to do its thing. |
@ mobius22
Please change the hi-res skins name to FooBor. Fobar is avery talented sh3 painter. FooBor (FooFighters and Boris) and Fobar are not the same person. Thanks  |

I am not a troll. I am much more active on Flight sim forums than subsim, but I have still been using this forum since the original Silent Hunter. I love sub sims and I love this site. I was downloading the mod "Truck Atoll" in the "Mobius download links" when suddenly I was getting pop ups at a rate of dozens per minute and could not stop them. They ranged from E-bay offers to online merchandise warehouses to online dating services. I used Trend Microsytems Housecall, my own AVG antivirus as well as Webroot Spysweeper to get rid of the problem, the only thing that worked was a program called "ComboFix" which found and neutralized a virus (call it what you want) called "Trojan_Monde.azy (?)" I understand that my post, which was intended as a warning to others, couls have been handled differently. It was not meant to impugn this great site. As far as "lacking more specific evidence" , I have corresponded with Peabody on this via PM and given him as much information as I have on the problem, which admittedly wasn't much. It is entirely possible that I contracted the virus or malware from another soursce, and it did not manifest itself until I visited Subsim, as was described by another persons' post. I apologize if I acted prematurely, but my intention was to warn others of a possible issue that was very difficult to eradicate. In fact I am still getting error messages on boot up (non-existent .dlls that won't load) which are a left over from this incident. I hope there is never a "next time", but if there is, I will choose to handle it differently than I did on this occasion. Sorry for any bad I caused.- Cheers, Chris |

because you left that info out it was of no real help at the time to anyone and declared the whole thread as being bad, this was my objection to the way you did it. you did the right thing to protect the community but maybe not the best wording of the post. as for your missing dll files, sorry to say it is often necessary that good files be lost to get rid of viruses so this is why you started getting errors. your best bet is to take some time out for a reformat and clean install of windows. its the only way. i have been there done that and you will have minor issues continue forever untill you do it. sorry for the bad news about that. |
Thanks Webster,
Right now, other than the error messages, things seem to be working. Reformtting is something I will put off until it becomes absolutely neccesary, but I agree it will probably come to that. Again, sorry for the initial reaction, this is great community and I feel fortunate to be a part of it- |
I'm not a Troll either
I'm not a troll either, but I have been called an ogre many times. I'm usually grouchy, especially in the morning. And I look like a large block of wood. However, I've been told that there is no one my friends would rather have with them in a bar fight. Which is really quite strange, because I havn't been in a fight in more than 8 years. Oh sorry, to get back on topic, all of us hate viruses, adware, spyware, etc. I have never caught or DL'ed one or any here, that is part of the reason I like it here so much. But everyone is particularly sensitive to having someone scream fire (meaning virus). So try and be as stated in above posts proactive rather than reactive. Hope to see ya in forums in the future.

Alright. I've been inactive here for some time so there is quite a backlog to get to work on.
Could someone other than me download the truk atol mod? I wanna know if I should delete it from the list. |

Mobius22, I was able to download the Carotio "Truk Corals Harbours Cities Locations v1.0" through the initial SubSim thread. The link listed will take you to another site called "Beyond the Shadows Mods Skins Downloads" and there you will find the "Truk Corals Harbours......" link to the download. A lot of jumping around, but it did download the 10.2mb file which seemed complete. I see since your back, you have updated your list to include my "U.S. Medals Fix" mod. Thank you!!! I know to keep up with all the mods can be quite daunting, great effort on your part!!! May I give you a couple of others from my group to add to the list? The handheld "AOB Calculator" found at this thread, and my "High Realism Tutorial" found here. Thanks again for truely a huge effort on your part to put the mods in one thread!!! |
This is a great list resource, can you please add Peabody's excellent Brooklyn Cruiser? it is a great addtion to the fleet thanks
