My second GWX 2.1 kill, just last night. I was patrolling in AN16, evening approaching with moderate visibility, so I figured I'd dive to listen around. Sure enough, a contact is reported heading SW, long range, slow speed. This thing is just sailing across my bow, crossing my course! That's like asking for it...
I don't get my hopes yet though, might be a small coastal ship...might be neutral...(it's 1939). I calculate an intercept course, which is sort of the course I was already on. Some 10 minutes later: ship spotted! Imagine my excitement when it's a 10.000 ton merchant! I'm perfectly lined up for a 90 degree shot in the starboard side of her at a range of just under 4000 meters. So I wait on the surface with engines stopped for her to be in the right position. :stare: Fired my first torp which hits her right under the smokestack. Stops the ship dead in her tracks. But...nothing. She stopped, but nothing happens. Okay, this being the RN's backyard, having seen a destroyer just 2 hours ago, I decide to go for a quick kill and fire a second torpedo. This one hits right under bridge and I can see her getting lower and lower in the water. It's getting dark now, and my watchcrew reports a warship on the horizon. So I decide to get out of the area, slowly. I point the stern towards the approaching destroyer and slip into the darkness when my crew reports the ship is going down! All in all, not a bad first war patrol. 18.000 tons of shipping to the bottom in a Type IIA :ping: http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l..._23453_954.jpg There she goes...gotta love GWX  |
