I had the opportunity to be a diesel boat submariner '67 to 70. Aboard the USS Segundo SS-398. Went to torpedomen school in Key West, Fla. Sub school in New London Conn. was assigned to COMSUBPAC in San Diego. Spent 9 months on a WESTPAC in 1969. Spent 30 days submerged in Haipong Harbor, Cambodia monitoring shipping that was dropping off supplies bound for Vietnam. At night we would come to snorkel depth, recharge batteries, and get fresh air. Just before dawn we would sneak back inside the harbor and take pictures of ships and their contraband. Sometimes we were in as little as 50 feet of water. With the scope up meant we had 10 feet between the keel and harbor floor at times........A little tense at times, but would love to do it over again..............DBF

I served on the SSNPC Dell class USS Dimension 2400 for 5 years now. It was an awesome experience.

when I was 16 I used to work on a fishing boat.
But now I serve at the Greek air force (HAF) and fly in F16C BLK52+ and my signature is the emblem of my squadron (341 SQN) Here is a video of almost every day routine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1QtxWqbNoQ |

Armchair Admiral
I hope to go to the ADF (Australian Defence Force) this year on their Gap Year program (runs for 12 months). Waiting to hear back from 'em about my hearing :-? (yes I am deaf, hear with hearing aids) but no reply for a whole week. Before I decide to take part. Deciding on whether I should go to Navy (get to go on a Collins Class submarine!! and go aboard HMAS Cerberus... I think) or go to Air Force (get to see the F-111C up close too, would be awesome :p). Probably definitely Navy. Wouldn't miss a chance to go on a sub at all. |
Going to serve in infantry later this year, other than that your standard, run of the mill armchair admiral here.
|
I ticked armchair admiral, but was wondering if ATC counted? Plenty of shooting and flying but nobody shooting at me. (actually did take a catapult hit just above the eye from the local retards/bred for benefits once, but I doubt that had the dignity of being politically motivated:cry:)

When I worked @intel, there are a lot of former bubbleheads there. When I showed one the 688i manual, he thumbed through it and said: "I can't talk about any of this.:|\\ " He had zero interest in subsims. I guess he had his fill in the navy. Subsim has such a great knowledge base, I was curious how much of it was/is actual experience. On the flip side, I had ROTC and several military history classes and it was fun to watch the armchair generals thump their chest's on what a great warrior they are!
Plus, I love hearing good military stories! |
Havn't served before, and neither will I serve in the future :nope: I actually want to drive a Song class or Kilo. I love it so much
That's because I live in Hong Kong, and I am exempted from serving in the military by the laws. But I wonder why there is no "Exempted" option for me to choose? |

I served six years in the USN as a Tin-can Sonarman from 72-78 specializing on Mk 114 Underwater Battery Fire Control Systems. Served aboard USS Schofield(DEG-3):
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/6392/deg35ez.jpg out of San Diego for most of the first 3 years then aboard USS Elmer Montgomery(FF-1082) out of Norfolk, Philly and Mayport: http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/9669/ff10826wq.jpg In that time I found 7 confirmed Soviet Subs. Two Foxtrot Diesel boats like these: http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/1...tsubmarvu4.jpg Two November SSNs like these: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/3699/novemberrz6.jpg One Victor I SSN like this one: http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/9...bmarinefc9.jpg One Echo II SSGN like this one: http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9...hoiiclavx7.jpg And the jackpot. One Yankee SSBN like this one: http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/2...sssubmaiw3.jpg I never looked for US subs as they were on our side anyway. I semi-circumnavigated the globe in both directions, overlapping by a thousand miles. I call it "Going Around The World the Hard Way". |
