Hey Reece!
I really like this mod, looks great!
I was thinking about trying the Realweatherfix, and read on that thread that you have tried it?
Just wondering how it works together with your scene mod?
Thanks in advance!

Works a treat, just apply the same as the others!:D

Thanx, Reece! Now my ocean is more Atlantic than ever before!!!

Hi fellows,

Reece, your Combined Scene and atmosphere mod is wonderful my friend. However to me, the 16km Atmosphere mod that comes with GWX2.0 itself had to be disabled so that the sky does not turn into a balck one at anytime of the day. Not a problem at all, just wanted to point it out cause JSGME warned me that some .dat files (do remember which ones) were already altered ...
Anyway, it is a great mod that deserves many cheers Reece.

Barbac

Hi Barbac, yes the SH4 Scene for SH3 is 8k only, the only 16k I have done is for green atlantic, I had in the past done a GWX Scene.dat 16k but this is a modded SH3 version & lacks the effects found in the SH4 version. If you want the setup for 8k version to have visual sightings up to 12k let me know & I will post the details.:yep:
Cheers.

@reece

I'd be very interested in modding the 8K version for 12K viz if you know of a way. Will this enable me to have the SH4Scene for SH3 and 12K vis? I'm pretty sure thats what you're saying but just want to make sure. Also, do you know of any negative effects or or will the end result simply be a reduction in viz from 16K to 12K (easily managed if one doesn't use too high time compression near hot spots)

Reece 02-27-08 08:41 AM

What you have to do is open the Sensors.dat file with minitweaker, select visuaul and change the PreciseRange to 9500 & MaxRange to 12000, you could change these to greater values but you will have problems with crew seeing them way before you visually can see them!:-? Now exit minitweaker & delete the copyOfSensors.dat file that is found in the data\Library folder, that's it, be sure to back up your original.:yep: If you wish I can make a JSGME modded version, you will just have to let me know the version you want modded (GWX 2.0 etc).:D
Cheers.

That one for GWX2 would be most welcome mate! I'm too noob for that kind of mojo!

Aside the beautiful waters of Lake Leman, I feel like diving in an ocean of ignorance
I have always thought that 16km version of SH4 scene was not possible... I thought that you would actually get artifacts (black sky, etc) by increasing visibility anywere above 8km...
It's the first time I hear about 12km!!! :o

If somebody can comment a little more about this, or provide me a link which I may have missed, that would be greatly appreciated :yep:

I feel... rather...

Thanks everybody anyway, you

There have been 16km mods for SH3 almost since it was released, and they work fine. You can actually see lighthouse lights from almost 20km on a clear night.

Myxale 02-27-08 06:03 PM

He talks about the 16k SH4 scene for SH3!

Reece 02-27-08 07:12 PM

This is rather hard to explain, first off there is no 16k SH4 Scene mod, there are too many problems that can't be resolved, almost any adjustments by even "1meter" in either direction will cause a black sky. Adjusting the visual sensors will make your crew, map etc show the ships, aircraft etc up to 12k, the horizon remains at 8k, however on a clear day when the crew sites a ship at close to 12k you can still just see the smoke, the best way is to try it out, the beauty is your crew can detect a plane in time to dive (in most cases), to safety!:yep: I will edit this post later with a download link for GWX 1.03 & 2 versions.:D

**** EDIT ****
This is most embarrasing to me, Both Sensors in GWX 1.03 & 2.0 are set to 12000m & 16000m as standard! Stock SH3 is 8k & the version I'm using is part of a set done for NYGM mod that is based on stock.
What this means is that using the 8k mod in either GWX 2 or 1.03 the visual range is the same as the 16k version.:yep:
Sorry about the confusion!

I've readed 3 times your last "edit" and I didnt understand squat...

Does this mean that the scene.dat isn't fully compitable with GWX??

Not at all, they (GWX Team) have set their sensors.dat to be the same for 8k or 16k, as I explained the SH3 world as you see it is 8k for the 8k version & 16k for the 16k version, the crew can see to 16k in 16k version but the crew can see to 16k in 8k as well, it's just that you can only see to 8k from the conning tower, in the 8k version the crew have x-ray vision & can see over the horizon!
After close examination I found that with the 8k version I can actually see to 12k on a clear day & as Sailor Steve pointed out you can see light house's even further as they are higher & emit a bright light, probably to around 16k in 8k scene,:yep: that is why I set mine to 12k.
The GWX 8k atmosphere is really incorrect but most people want their visuals higher that is probably why it's left that way.
I hope I explained it better.
Another explanation:
SH3 was created with a visual range to 8km (about 6.5miles) in the Scene.dat file, the crew or U-boats visual range was also set to 8km in the Sensors.dat file, later modders changed the visual range to 16km, adjusting both Scene.dat & Sensors.dat. GWX produced an 8k Scene.dat & 16k Scene.dat but only 16k Sensors.dat.
If anyone wants I can put it down to 12k, just let me know.:D
