Hehe. :D

Ok, I've started modding the sounds and AS USUAL(!!!!!) 1C has made it as hard as it can be (same is with IL2's ground textures, every single area has 2 texture files on top of each other ). Anyways, most of the games play the sound when the gun is fired, so it cuts the last firing sounds and immediatly loops it. But nope, not in this case! It plays the whole fricking sound, before it loops it again, meaning if I make a 2min sound file, it plays it in WHOLE, before you can hear that can fire again. You see it fire, but you can hear it. This' gonna be a pain in the butt to do. :nope:

Okie, I got myself to speed. Atm, I've the german & US arty sounds changed to distant, so it sounds like the arty pieces really are few miles back. Colt .45 sound changed, Thompson sound almost ready, same goes for the 30 .cal. Kar98 sound changed to the hihg pitched very metallic sound from Saving Private Ryan. Springfield changed to the one from SPR, two versions, with and without the "My shield and he whom I trust" prayer after the shot. Also, one 105mm ground explosion is changed. I change few more explosion sounds and I'm ready to upload the first version.

Edit: Oh and what comes to the snipers, they are dang deadly! The first German mission, where you have to breakthrough the Polish defences I positioned my sniper to a hill overlooking the first trenches and the fecka killed everyone who still were there after my arty! If I counted correctly, he killed 14 Poles. :)

Well, it's made out of mods for DoD & CoD2, so I dont think it's proper for me to release it there as I'm not the author of the sounds. Then again, I could have just ripped the sounds from the movie/series, but I'm lazzzy. ;)

Okay, as long as I get it who gives a fekk.

Here is a review that sums it up nicely:

Out of Eight website gives Theatre of War 7 out of 8 score http://www.battlefront-store.com:808...pdf_button.png http://www.battlefront-store.com:808...rintButton.png http://www.battlefront-store.com:808...mailButton.png Tuesday, 06 November 2007
Theatre of War is a sound real time strategy game and its smaller focus and solid AI make it stand out against the wealth of competition. The graphics engine derived from IL-2 Sturmovik look very good in the game, especially when it comes to unit animations and the spectacular backgrounds. I really like the more intimate battles present in Theatre of War: this makes the game more accessible to new users while allowing micromanagers to individually control each unit if they choose. Of course, you can also let the AI target their own enemy units since the AI is smart enough to be generally left alone. Theatre of War is a difficult game, and those people who are accustomed to just throwing units at the enemy and hoping for the best will get quickly beaten. Theatre of War emphasizes good positioning and appropriate countering of enemy units: no longer are you able to use infantry units to take out a tank that are not equipped with anti-tank weaponry. The variety of scenarios and character development options, along with the mission and map editors, make Theatre of War a total package. If they fixed the vehicle pathfinding, then Theatre of War would be one of the most complete World War II strategy games available. There are many good things about the title, and as long as you’re willing to think while you play, Theatre of War provides a rewarding strategy experience.

Aye, cant agree more with that.

I'm really loving the snipers in ToW. While in CC maybe 4 out 10 shots hit from long distance, the ToW snipers are very accurate. Dont know how they are when it comes to balance in MP. A sniper in good position can pretty much kill everything you throw at it aslong as they arent tanks or armored cars.

stabiz 02-10-08 07:07 PM

What I would do is order "general fire in that direction" in MP. No player would let his fancy sniper lie on a hill that gets more attention than Omaho Beach.

Btw, have you applied the uberpatch, Dowly? I just did, and the sounds are better. (performance too)

stabiz 02-10-08 07:08 PM

Oh, and where is that damned sound-mod?! You are way over deadline!:rotfl:

Dowly 02-10-08 07:29 PM

Yeh, I downloaded the über patch immediatly.

Here's the fecking mod, it's half-assed and contains sounds that I am about to change, but as you cant wait, here, take it. :p

Put the samples folder to your ToW folder. You might want to delete the browning sounds as they arent ready and sound weird.

Now, can I play the game for awhile? :rotfl:

Dowly 02-10-08 07:43 PM

Hmm... I think I have a go at the uniforms.. they are awfully low resolution. :hmm:

stabiz 02-10-08 08:20 PM

NO, you cant play yet, not until i am content. (And ze germans just kicked my US behind in France. Damned Panthers) But I will get them the second time around, I have -insert Blackadder voice - a cunning plan ...

Yeah, the uniforms could look better, but its not as important as some brutal sounds.

The models are very good looking, by the way, I often pause the game and just look around.

PS: Do you think its possible to remove the "Game Paused" message? I know its paused, (/)(/&%)/&%/¤¤#!

Edit: Will these sounds overwrite?

Not sure, I take a look at it.

The sounds wont overwrite any files, but it makes the game look for those particular sounds from the sample folder, just delete them if you want the old sound back.

Just had a go on the uniforms and... well... maybe I go back to the sounds. :p

stabiz 02-10-08 09:59 PM

I havent dropped them into the game yet, but I had a listen in winamp, and::rock:

Now I know its safe to add them too, but I have to go to bed. You should too.:rotfl:
