U-5 reporting in
U-5 from the 1st Flot, a type IID commanded by Kaluen Broderhase. Just completed sixth patrol, and upgraded to a type VIIb. Hope it serves us as well as the canoe. With all the dud torps - - needed a deck gun. Otherwise the IID is a terrific boat.

Games and wives not compatible
Timing is everything!
I just spent a little over two hours getting myself away from being depth charged and working my way outside and ahead of an Armed Trawler so I could cut back in toward the convoy for another shot. I had just gotten myself in position & took a long shot at a Liberty Cargo which was at the front and other side of lthe convoy. after that shot I had to quickly turn 30 degrees to starbord & fire at the Liberty cargo loaded with fuel barrels (my main target)...Then left turn quickly 90degrees to & line up for a 45 degree mag shot under the Small merchant which was also loaded with fuel barrels. This shot had to be precise because it was 1200m , rough seas and at a 45degree angle it doesn't give you much wiggle room.. Anyway, I made the turn & was just one degree away from the shot...Man, I was wired with anticipation..The pressure was on...Am I finely going to get a three way sinking? The Far Liberty Cargo just went boom! My guys said "Yea" and the fuel laden Liberty just exploded in a massive fire ball that I could see light up the night sky. At one degree from shoot time....POW! The damn lights come on full bright in my dark cave like computer hovel, and in comes the wife (she hates my computer) to do some insignificant thing that did not take light... It startled me, who had tunnel vision. very focused... A slight twitch of the finger on that red button & there goes my torpedo... As you may well know by this time...I didn't get my three sinkum. That torpedo passed right under the curved up tip of the bow & just kept on travellen...JUST ONE MORE DEGREE/SECOND! Now that armed trawler is busten waves to get to me so there is nothing left to do but dive, turn a bit, count to 10 slowly, and save & exit & get my self off to work... If she had of just been even 1 second later...NOT! Wives and games just don't fit... |

U-36 (SHIII)
@PapaG39 Two hours of stalking a British freighter ... using an end-run on the surface to get ahead of him ... and a beautiful 90 degree AOB shot with a catastophic explosion that sank the 5500-ton ship in less than two minutes. I'm surfacing, the bridge crew has just come up on deck, and I'm ready to save, right? Wrong. The wife is turning off lights for the night, and accidentally hits a switch that controls the outlet for the computer ... The rest, unfortunately, is not history. :x |
