I don’t understand why some feel that it has to be a choice between SH3 and SH4. They simulate two significantly different combat environments, and feature vastly different “hardware”. It’s only natural that some will find one sim more attractive than the other.

Personally, I am still primarily an SH3 player, as I love my little TypeIID, and the close in coastal work.

My copy of SH4 sits on a shelf for two main reasons;

1) It is considerably more demanding in terms of hardware resources than SH3, and my machine is marginal.
2) UBI disappointed me in a big way when they failed to include the Narwhal Class boats; ….And I am disinclined to spend the money to fix “item 1” merely to play with a bunch of virtually identical fleet boats.

….Now if V1.4 happens to include a Narwhal, then all of the above goes out the window! I will happily spend the $500 I need to invest in my machine!

(UBI Take Note!!! …..We spend FAR more money on hardware to run your games properly than we spend in purchasing the game! You don’t really have to be discounting your stuff to the point of questionable profitability!!!)

Reading between the lines here gives me a rather large impression that maybe the two sims could be merged in patch 1.4?

But then again, that's a rather large impression...:D

I'm getting all giddy!

You crack me up with the Narwhal. I certainly hope someone can design the Narwal for this game. Variety is the spice of life.

Not to be side-tracked, but I agree, this is interesting AVG ^^^ :yep:

I have to admit, I am big-time interested to see what is in the new patch. I really see this as a bonus, as I am really enjoying SH4 with TM, ROW and bunch of smaller
mods :yep:

Some reasons because I like more SH3 are for example the fooding animation of each compartment are very good , actually we can see the water flooding each damaged room , in SH4 there are only ugly square box to represent the flooding , another reason is because we can see in the damage screen of SH3,how much DamageHitPoints got the sub ( Hull Integrity Percentage ) , in SH4 the player only can GUESS about this damage and therefore the player have NO idea about the SCORE of the game

Each game has it strong points and it's weak points. No doubt.

This comparisation is silly. Two different games. It's like comparing salt and sugar.

And if 1.4 patch will take players out of SHIII, then that would mean SHIII & SHIV combined AND that would mean, that the patch comes out in 2015.

And while Atlantic Sharks sure looks tempting, I see only 6 devs on the team. Any idea how long it will take for them to build their mod up to the point where it can compete with GWX? ;)

I'm not aware of any competition. :hmm:

In SHIV I TC across to Japan, scout about, sink some ships and TC back to base. I do this because i find the theatre dull and just want to sink ships.

In SHIII I sail out of my base knowing that i'm gonna have a hell of a patrol against a more than capable adversary and that I have to really work hard to achieve tonnage. The tension and emmersion of SHIII just blows SHIV out of the water in my view and no SHIV patch will change my oppinion on this.
Well, then may be you should pick an S-Boat in 1941 out of Manila and head out to face all alone the invasion task force of the japanese, and of course do NOT use the TDC but only slide rulers, as there was no TDC aboard S-Boats :D

I'm not willing to compare both warfares, they are different and of course suit different tastes. However, if it is the challenge what you like, try what I suggested and be prepared to suffer a lot :yep:

There will always be unintentional competition.

Thats a fact! The Narwhal as a boat to select would be nice. Didn't it have the dreaded HOR motors?

The Narwhal and her sisters started out with two MAN 2 stroke diesels, but in a Mare Island refit in 1941, they were replaced with four General Motors diesels, which were much more reliable.

Note: In the same refit, the boys at Mare Island also added four external torpedo tubes. (Just another headache for the Dev Team!:rotfl: )
