Like a lot of people, I had high hopes for that one, but from the reviews I have read, it was released in a very unfinished form and is nigh on unplayable because of that. By almost every account I've read of it, the conclusion was: 'give it a miss'. Shame really, as we could do with a good chopper sim for 'Nam.
There have been a few, but none were that great, stuff like Medevac (the Search and Rescue revamp) and that other one that had a third person view of your chopper, the name of which escapes me at the moment (which was actually good fun, but hardly a sim, and that one doesn't run on XP). If you get some of the Yankee Air Pirate missions for wings Over Vietnam, you can fly a Huey and a few other choppers in 'Nam, but the flight model is a bit bizarre, because they had to 'trick' the program into allowing rotary winged aircraft in the sim, so it's not that easy to fly the thing, even though the missions are actually good. You can see it in that 'Nam movie I posted a while back, and you can tell from the footage that I had to be a bit creative with the editing to make it look like it was under control! You can fly a Huey in flight simulator, but you will be bereft of 'hot LZs' and guns. :D Chock |

Also, on the other thread Oleg said that they try to make the damage more invidual to all the bullets, but there's an limit on how far they can go. Making the bullets really make real holes is possible but with everything else on SOW, it would need an hyper PC to run the game. Let's hope there will even be decals for all the bullets, would be cool. |

Please note: Visuals here represent Flak and AA damage, not damage from other planes. |
Ta mate!
I must say that looks nice. Instead of decals, all the holes are real holes now. |
Yea ..that second pics got nearly as many holes as what my plane had the other night

Hold your horses there Hunter. Looks like the damage is pre-scripted like now on IL2, instead of an dynamic DM, which I really was hoping. Just see the 2nd pic, both wings have 11 holes, the tail wings both have 3. :nope: Oh well, it still going to kick some butt. :yep:

Dynamic damage would eat up GOBS of CPU power. There's practically no way you could do it without suffering severe lag at one point or another (like if 3 BF-109's gang up on 1 Hawker Hurricane; the plane gets shot to pieces, but with so much going on [dynamic damage, bullet effects, plane logs, plane sounds, etc.] you'd suffer pretty bad lag). We're not quite there yet, even in terms of the PC power we have today. |
Even the text "Rolls Royce" on the engine! Magic!
