Personally re ships I'd love to see a suface action sim, but I'm a tad perverse. I'd like to see how the latest graphics and game development could handle a decent fighting sail sim, based around the the Napoleonic Wars and the American War of Independance.

I'd love to see some decent ship modeling and a realistic career and game play, but you know what, I'll never ever see it........cos it games developers are loosing interest in new games. Last time I visited my gamer store there was virtually nothing new of interest to any one one over 10 yo -

Seems games developers are still firmly entrenched in the idea that games are for kids and geeks. There is so little to engage an active mind or at least some one who is not interested in the pap served up nighly on TV. Oh well there's my little rant, I feel better now!

It looks like SH4 bombed.

It is very doubtful we will see a new subsim/game for many years to come--keep Gwixing, it's as good as it will get.

American war of Independance (Second British Civil war :P) would be so interesting. Would be better though if it was Trafalgar etc. Chance to blast the French and rebels out of the water with a mighty ship of the line ^_^

But alas closest you'll get to that is Imperial Glory. I think there will be no decent sub sims for years now.

As for games that make you think. Armed Assault is pretty good...but allot of new games dont require much thought. Though the XBOX 360 looks like its going to get allot of decent thinking games. The new Bioshock for sure!

I second this mans comment. Speaking as one highly critical of SH4, so much so I stopped sub simming for ages, couldnt fact the faults of either sh3 or 4, now the TM & 1.3 mod have reveresed all this, Im back in there and I never thought I'd say this, I am enjoying SH4, these mods plus one or two others have made it playable and enjoyable.

Yet there are others that hold to this silly notion that it is a competition between GWX and SHIV, and that if you play one, that you are being disloyal to the other. Foolishness.

Flame away, but it's true.

personally i think that an american silent hunter in the atlantic would be crap. First of all Germany didnt send commerce ships througout the atlantic like america, uk and a hell of other countries did so the first problem would be reduction of targets. So this leaves you with the only option of going after german warships and germany barely even had a surface navy. So in all you wouldnt have as much fun as you think you would.

I think the next SH should allow us to sail submarines of any country, japan, USA, Germany, England, Italy etc etc. Allow us to play as destroyers too, i mean how hard could it be to add that feature? Okay, i am sure its hard but take five to ten years to develop the next game while we enjoy Sh3-4

Also expand the game period and make it so open ended that it allows for alternate scenarios (10% chance germany begins to win the war, 20% chance invasion of russia never happens) Let us play until 1954 even

Some may say "what, allied subs in the atlantic? How boring" But what may be boring to some may not be to others. What made the silent hunter series so great was its open endedness. Why not expand the possiblities even more and attract more buyers, win win for everyone.

That would be EXTREMELY time consuming. Just look at the detailed diagrams for crew management on SH3 and SH4. Probably took 4 months just to MAKE 1 drawing, and THEN they had to scan them and program them and tweak them and that whole deal must of taken about a year and a half entirely (thank god for multi-tasking).

Hopefully, we'll see a community mod that does allow you to control ships for SH3 in the future, because I'm fairly sure, with a community of IGN users at my knees, that SH4 doomed Ubisoft for at least the next 2 or maybe even 3 years in the Silent Hunter franchise. However, I'm also sure the idea has been brought up somewhere along the line and it's in the talks, but it's pretty unlikely to happen, as Ubisoft has never, and will never, be known for its generous negotiations with the gamers and also is a lazy cow, just like Lucas Arts has been for the past 3 years.

That's cool. When SH4 was announced a lot of Atlantic lovers said Pacific was boring. I want to see continual new versions of both.

But not for a while; I still have to get tired of these, and for me that could take years.:sunny:

RDP

AMEN TO THAT

The next one would ideally for me be the nuclear sub age (under the polar cap) SSN v SSBN :arrgh!:

ramileous 08-06-07 04:38 PM

this world war 1 game coming out looks outdate already, but maybe the next silent hunter should be a beautiful sim for WWI subs? But then it might be boring since subs worst enemy was its own ship breakdowns.

i had this crazy idea a long time ago...:hmm:
how about a silent hunter set on the future? or even the present, i would love to see the realism of sh3 and sh4 (combined) make it into todays setting, with americas new virginia class subs, the russians with their akulas and alfas and things. i think it would be cool to have a crew management screen with the menacing black steel tube. and make it completely dynamic (like, you command a typhoon and you get an order to tactically nuke washington dc or something, or maybe even go off and do it yourself)

thats what i think they should do, world war two is (generally) a fun era to play in, but the creators horizons should expand, silent hunter 4 is a better sh1, and sh3 is a better sh2, why not have Sh5 be like that?

rascal101 08-07-07 12:41 AM

I just want a 'menacing black steel tube', Just think, if the Germans had had the 'menacing black steel tube' of doom, I recon the outcome of the war would have been a whole lot differenter

I guess I'll never see a fighting sail game, no one would have the patience to learn how to sail and how to fight, and with every one adicted to speed, such a game would be too slow for most....Woe is me!!
