PS: I play both SH3 & SH4 so stick that in your pipe and smoke it. :p

This ^^, SH4 more, but GWX is not going anywhere soon. Like both theatres.

I can't even try SHIV as those mutton-heads at UBI made the specs for the game too hard. Neither of my computers can play the game without terrible mouse lag and low options. UGH!:arrgh!::arrgh!::arrgh!:

Iron Budokan 07-19-07 12:48 PM

And it's not like I didn't give the game a chance....

I bought two copies when it came out. But now SH4 is off my computer and on the shelf. I'm sticking with SHIII from here on out.

I'm sticking with SHIII, I like SHIV but it needs some major work to it for it to be as fun as SHIII. Plus I prefer u-boats over the yank subs anyday.

Exactly what I posted over on the SH4 forum in the thread "Is this it?" For SH4, that IS IT. No more patches will be forthcoming from Ubi. Also, I paid $10 for SH3 new in the box at Amazon.com. The cheapest price I could find for SH4 was $32.51 and that was for a USED version. No way I'm paying that price for something that won't be fixed until the modders get done with it. I can stay in the Atlantic and not be bugged with bugs :smug:

Tried it...
Launched the game after having watched/read a SH3/SH4 differences guide.
Set the options
Started my career
Got told about the war, was assigned to that island.
Ok, finally I'm in my cabinet... Sub upgrades, let's see what the americans have to offer - what? what the hell am I going to do now, this stupid interface..
Ok, seems I don't have anything to set, off to sea!

I won't continue

Taking it all together - the UI is CRAP.. sorry, I'm not usually talking like this, but really, it is, compared to SH3. The 2D jokermen look really bad. The game has very high spec reqs (That's not a big problem tough, water is a hard thing to render). And a thing not the fault of this game - American subs are not good at all.

So far I've not been tempted by SH4 -- somehow the PTO doesn't really grab me. And I've nothing against Gato/Balao boats, the only subs I've actually set foot in (USS Pampanito & Bowfin). Well, there's always next year...

Wilcke 07-19-07 05:21 PM

Play both, especially after SH4 got the 1.3 patch, very nice and enjoyable. Also, Ducimus just released his Trigger Maru 1.3 Mod, which adds a lot of value to gameplay. Werner Sobe also released a mod addressing the very fast sink times and is about done; making the sinkings very realistic.

Overall with the devs kicking in the patch and the Modders doing their magic we finally have a product. The glass is half full!

What's PTO ?

I liked the Gato/Balao classes in SH1 though. This wouldn't make me not play SH4. It's just not necessary yet as SH3 became something like a whole new game with GWX too.
