Yikes - now I understand your problem, but apparently I can't run at that resolution on my 8800GTS and (old) 21" monitor, so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to recreate the effect here. I'll try your numbers tomorrow anyway, and see what happens on my screen, but it may not work or tell us anything at my resolutions. Hopefully the mouse wheel thing will work for you and sidestep the issue.

OK - I think I know what the problem is - when I tried your numbers in your post above as the only change I made to the menu_1024_768.ini , this is what I got - notice especially the dark box under some of the text in the pictures below:

With the cursor anywnere in the dark box, the scroll bar and arrows are visible:

But, move the cursor outside the dark box, and they disappear:

I think that there's some sort of mismatch between the changes you made to section [G3F I233] and the changes you made (or didn't make) to section [G3F I241] - that latter section seems to control the size/position of the dark box, and you probably need to make the same size-related changes to [G3F I241] that you made to [G3F I233] (probably in the 3rd and 4th numbers in the Zone line) - looks like I didn't realize you needed to resize both the text area and the dark background area at the same time or you lose the scroll bar capability.

Try that and let me know if your problem goes away.

OOPS - hang on - the old notes document I was checking on had section numbers that were left over from before patch 1.3, which changed the numbering of some of these sections. Apparently I updated the first post in this thread for Patch 1.3 but not my notes document - I'll have to take another look and find out which section you need to use to resize the dark background.

Woot - GOT IT!

all you have to do is make the same changes (increase the 3rd and 4th zone numbers by the same amount) in section [G3F I237] as you do in section [G3F I241] - so, using your numbers in the post above, where:

[G3F I241]
Zone= 262 742 438 118 0 1 0x3F2A0000 0 0 0x3F320000 0 0 6 -22

you should make the zone line in Section [G3F I237] be as follows:

Zone= 256 764 450 144 0 1 0x3F000000 0.25 0 0x3F2A0000 0 0 0 -4

That appeared to work fine in my resolution - try it with yours and let me know if it works - good luck !

BTW - I finally figured out how to fix one last little niggling problem that I had with this. Some time ago, I started using SH4 Speech (great program, by the way - thanks minsc_tdp:yep: ) and its mouse command features seemed to work better if you leave the orders bar locked. Of course, I had originally moved the message box down to where it would just barely clear the orders bar when it was slid down when unlocked, so that meant I had to move the message log box back up a bit from where I had moved it originally with this "mod" so that it wouldn't be obscured by the now-higher, locked orders bar. Unfortunately, that had the side effect of partially masking the bottom of the TDC panel, so I found myself having to drag the message log box around to get it out of the way of the TDC panel - not exactly what you want to have to be messing with while in the middle of an attack :nope:

So, I finally figured out how to move the TDC panel up slightly - just enough to get clear of the relocated message log box and still have everything work - see below:

If you're running higher than 1024x768 resolution, this is probably not an issue for you since there's more room for the message log box in the higher resolutions, but if you're running 1024x768 you might want to try this - as it turns out, it's a very simple tweak to the menu_1024_768.ini file, as follows:
