Hi...
I am in the same boat. I made 3 succesfull Patrols after starting a new career and after departing for my fifth patrol, the Map looked like the same as the Thread starter one. I also have that "crew saying numbers" Problem I never had before. *sigh* €dit: PC is a socket 939 AMD X2 3800, 2GB RAM, ATI 850 XT PCI-e running Win XP €dit 2: I can also confirm that it has something to do with a No-CD exe. Running the game with the orginal exe solved my Problems. I use Nero Drive Speed to lower the Spin of my DVD drive to reduce the noice and the high RPMs it used to spin while checking the Protection. |

Same thing has happened 2-3 times. Just a simple restart of the game has fixed it. |
Confirmed!
I've reinstalled the game and patched direct to 1.2 Problem still occurs sometimes. I've deleted no-cd exe and return to orginal exe. All issues disapear! :rock:The same map issue, issue that i cannot fire torpedos sometimes and flat characters with big "voodoo" eyes  So do not use nocd exe, or at least u may want to check some newer one. |

"Don't use a no-DVD exe or the copy protection will corrupt your game" Would cut down on like 50% of the "bug" reports with newer members joining the SHIV forum every other day who might not yet be aware of this. |
I'm using these drivers on my 7900GS's, work well:

BFG 7600GS 512mb no CTD since day 1.
After patch 1,2 and many different mods still no ctd. All I did was defrag and shut down background programs. Running game cranked to max. Get back to basics and you won't have so many problems. BTW have only 3+ years EXP on computer and also built this rig. Quit trying to reinvent the wheel. :D |
Looks like the new copy protection system is working good. Let's just hope in a year or so UBI releases a patch that removes the protection. Doubtful this will happen I realize, but atleast publishers like THQ understand that paying customers don't appreciate being treated like criminals in the name of copy protection.
Not that I'm complaining that UBI dropped Starforce; I guess it could be worse :p |
Map Anomolies
I have the same problems with my game.
I have uninstalled Defragged, Scan Disked, run Registry cleaners. I do get the chop Suey map from time to time, and I have the No DVD fixed exe as well. All I do is stop the game exit completely out and just restart it, goes away . It's a little inconveniant, but with kids around, I will suffer the slight inconveniance in order to save my DVD game disk at the tune of $ 49.99 a Smack. I also experianced the not being able to fire the torpedo's , but that only happened when I was doing one of the Spy incerts into enemy territory, as soon as I get away from the area where the spy was to be incerted, the problem stopped and I could then again fire my torpedo's. And then I could reverse course and re enter that same area and hunt at will. The other Issue I have noticed is that when the Jap betty bombers fly over my sub and drop their ordinance, they then do really gnarley cartwheels and flips until they crash into the sea next to the sub. Other than that The graphics are kick ass, the play is awsome, but Multiplay leaves me dissatisfied like dry humpen on Friday night in Singapore. Charlie PS: Cover your eye's |

Am still running the same ole career I started with patch 1.1. Running Nvidia 7800GS ( AGP ) with 3 Gigs ram. When 1.2 came out I was half way from my base ( Pearl Harbor ), I turned around back to Pearl and entered port and just plain quit game. This was an automatic Save. I wiped out every game save in the SH4 folder "Richsavedgames folder" also its mate in the "Savedgames folder" which is listed as 00000009 or some other end number ( in My Documents ) except the last one as I said above that I manually made half way from port when 1.2 came out ( not takeing a chance just in case ), Applied 1.2 patch, defraged. cold booted and restarted SH4. when asked which save to accept I saw there were three saves, one being the one I did not wipe out and the other two were autosaves, one of them being my just entering Base.I applied that autosave and except for a few of the little bugs that seem contagious in this Sim I've no bug eyes,no weird looking maps no weird looking graphics period. Also I am not now nor have I ever ran A No CD, or any other kind of crack.
If you are useing a laptop and travel around playing SH4 ( which BTW is not supported by UBI in the first place ) I can understand not wanting to keep useing disc in the drive all the time for lack of room to carry them as you just may have more than one type game to play, but for a stationary computer not to use the disc for SH4 is just pure lazyness. You put in the disc and when security icon ( disc icon takeing place of your mouse pointer ) is through ( about 15 seconds ) you then can take out your SH4 disc and put into a plastic jewel case ( Buy jewel cases by the 10 pack, there cheap ) and never have a scratch nor warped heat problem as some has complained about. Do people honestly think they must leave the SH4 disc in the DVD drive all through the game?? Sure sounds like it from what I've read. Anyway no problem with Nvidia card here and also very few mods installed, yet. ( allthough D/L and saved on a CD for later use ) Sorry Mod makers but some of your bigger mods are not ready for SH4 yet and will not be untill SH4 Devs complete their patches. I think some of you are finding this out as as lot of captains that have most the bugs also run a lot of heavy mods. DO NOT get me wrong Modders for you guys are ( as Tony The Tiger says ) http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/oleman/tony.jpgGRRREAT. OK,OK You SH4 Devs are great also, it's just your UBI bosses I'm not thinking so great about. :arrgh!: |
