So . . . you're using an old video card which is far inferior to the cheapest bottom end modern video card and is explicitly not supported, and then complaining the game doesn't run well?

DaMaGe007 03-21-07 04:39 PM

Did you read the thread ? I think your misinterpreting the tone of my post.

I was letting people know how it runs on a less than stellar card, as alot of people on this forum say they dont have a super rig.

SharpShin 03-21-07 05:46 PM

I have an old 9800pro and it runs great on medium settings. also I have a barton 2500+ overclocked to 2ghz even lol. and 1.5 gigs of pc3200 ram. That is far from stellar and I am pleased.

tater 03-21-07 06:10 PM

my machine is pretty crappy (AMD 2600+, radeon 9800 pro, 1 gig ram) and it runs decently well on slightly lowered settings from the default. I haven't run fraps yet, but it is certainly playable.

yeah I guess the thread title is a bit misleading but I guess people are just trying to share that their older rigs still run the game. :D

If a 9800 Pro runs fine on mid settings then i'm probably good to go with the X800 Pro AGP but I might also need to stick to medium settings.

Yikes!

Hey guys! Well I play most of my games on my laptop (its an 2 yr old alienware) since my desktop is tooo damn loud with all the fans it in (3 yr old alienware)... The laptop has a 3.02 GHZ pent 4 and 1 gig or ram.. but the vid card is an ATI mobility Radeon 9600/9700 series. I don't mind if my graphics are cranked up but I hope it just plays decent ya know.

For the record, alienwares kind of suck. Both of the ones I have owned crapped out within the first 3 months (laptops moboard died, main HD on desktop died). I wish I could update my vid card but as it is now, laptops don't make great game comps.. wayyy too much heat generated (which causes a lot of lock ups), can't really upgrade, etc etc. But I never had probs with SH3.

I can't wait til SH4 reaches the Power Zone on base here in Germany.. New stuff takes FOREVER to reach here... maybe by the time SH4 comes here, SH5 might be comming out back in the states :)

I have a 9800Pro as well. Low-medium settings are tolerable on open seas but when you're targeting ships it gets pretty sluggish so I'm going to order a EVGA 7600gt (CAN $125). Think I'll throw in that other gig of ram I have lying around as well. :smug:

Even on lowest settings...

i have a pooforce 6200 turbocache. i think its 256mb.
AMD athlon 64 3500 (1.8ghz)
1 gig ram.

i have enviromental effects on. maybe something else. my mouse sure wont fly across the screen like the one in the YOUTUBE vid, but apart from the ussuall start its fine.
on start up i hit the deck and do a 360 with the binos. all is fine after that.

lighting effects are the ultimate killer on my rig.
still looks nice and runs quite well indeed.

This makes me feel better. I have the 6200OC 256mb card. 1 gig ram and the AMD 3200+. With luck mine should run like yours. I plan on overclocking the card up some more:up: You can make a 6200 run like a 6600. Some of the 6200 cards 4 more pipelines can be opened for a total of 8 like the 6600 card.

I have a P4 3.0ghz, 6200 256mb card and soon to be 2.5 gig of RAM (2gig being delivered as we speak)

I have a low profile AGP slot, which means I can't upgrade past this card:nope: It will hold me over for another 6 months, so I can then talk my then wife into leting me buy a new rig.

I don't expect it to run the game with all setting maxed out, But I do hope it will be playable. After all I meet the required specs for the game!:yep:

AMD 64 3500
2GB Ram
SETA Drives
Gainward
Bliss 7800GS + OC 512mb

Frame rate is stutter free and a solid 30 to 44 with all effects on.

:D

256MB OK or do I need 512MB?

I have a 3.0GHz with 1 GB RAM. My video card is an ATI Radeon 9700 with 128MB. SH4 runs, but barely at the lowest settings. My card slot is an AGP 4x.

If I upgrade, will a 256MB card do the trick, or should I spend the extra money to get a 512MB card?

Depends on what kind of memory it is!

A 256mb card with DDR3 memory is much better than a card with 512mb of slower memory. I would recommend considering the memory speed, not just amount, as well.

Thanks CCIP!

Are there any DDR3 cards that will work in a AGP 4x system?

I was thinking of one of these might work, but aren't they all DDR2?

Radeon X1650 PRO
Radeon X1300
GeForce 7600GT or GS

Most AGP 8x cards work on a AGP 4x as they can handle the backwards step. Having the extra memory power won't mean a bigger jump as you hoped due to the different speeds of the slot.

Hi klh,

Yes therey're are a few models of GPU's that have GDDR3 ram that are AGP version.

The X1950 (ATI) has 512mb,
and the 7800 GS(I just bought this one, as I also have AGP on my system) are both models that I know of off-hand that have type GDDR3 ram.

Below are links for at least a reference point.

I've numbered them in terms of best to worst. I don't really have the time to explain the differences in each as I'm short on time. But I may bump this in a few days to explain...maybe.
Hope you found that useful! :arrgh!:
