There is no life for us after SH4 we are two thirds burnt out and SH4 will burn us all out, hospital here we come. ;)

A dream would come true! Since reading the Richard Bolitho Saga by Alexander Kent I want to (virtually;) ) command frigate and ships of the line. Just thinking of such an option makes me drool.:D:rock:
LOL then guess about my feelings after heaving read the whole Bolitho, Hornblower and Aubrey series

Life after SH4? For sure! My bet is we will finally get the wolfpacks in SH5 with a return to the Atlantic. New engine or not, that doesn't matter...add the whole GWX stuff, eliminate the well known bugs and port all new items added in Sh4 plus the Wolfpacks....and you get the perfect U-Boat sim.

But please no cold war or modern warfare...we have already the excellent Sub Command plus SCU/SCX and Dangerous Waters for that!

As it's already been said, combining SH3 and SH4 and a new Destroyer Command and then giving the play the option to play as any of the major nations would be the best thing to happen to a sub sim. Play as the US, UK, Germany and Japan in their respective areas of operation.

Of course it would take time to produce such a game and most game companies(the larger ones anyway) are more about how many games they can pump out in a year rather then quality.

So the chances of there being something along the lines of the best subsim to ever come out and have everything any of us could ever want are slim to none.

I read the Hornblower and Aubrey series as well, but I only mentioned Bolitho because I think it's the best series.;):yep:

If SH4 makes enough sales, then we can look forward to a SH5. Would like to be able to play either side of a area. Hope that a DC2 manages to make it out. Would like the ablity to go from one end of the sub to the other. We can only wait and see what the future holds...

Wow, a "what'll the next SH game be like" thread! How come no one's thought of that before?!

Oh, wait, they have.

Seriously, though, theatre's the same to me, as long as you're driving a British sub;).

Sure you have, but it lacks the graphics and immersion, only 2d screens, you dont see other crew members, whenever i play SC ,DW i dont feel like im abord a real submarine compared to SH3.

Where's the fun in that though? The problem with modern day sub sims for me is that it's mostly a technological war where missiles are fired from hundreds of miles away. What I love about the Silent Hunter series is the fact that it really was a game of cat and mouse in WWII.

I'm with you on this.

The reason i've stayed away even from very good, very realistic and very immersive flight sims like Falcon 4.0 is simply because modern warfare technology makes games/simulators rather dull. The technology of modern warfare lacks the former aggression, skill and cunning that earlier techonology required form the operator. I'm very new to the sub sim world (only a few months) and I don't know how much WW1 subs had a part to play in combat but i imagine that it was alot more than anything post 1950.
Keep it in ye olde days. Let me line up my torpedoes and keep my fingers crossed waiting for the explosion. Far more fun than clickin on a map, launchin a nuke and waiting for the world to end.

Cold war 100%.

I also hope for a Jule Verne / Nautilus type of game, that is not for kiddies.

Something like Silent Hunter plus RPG elements plus searching treasures etc ..

Or wait .. a sailing / pirate game with this engine!

Personally, I think if Ubi wants a truly amazing game to redefine the genre, they should stop issuing concrete development schedules and essentially hampering the dev team from using all of their creative talent. Too often have I seen the devs say "due to time constraints" and it'd be really interesting to just give them a project, a budget and a post-it saying "Let me know when its done"

I suppose most of the posters on this board have a stigma against modern sims, but a remake of Red Storm Rising with a full dynamic campaign, 3D interiors, multiple submarines on both sides, and up-to-date graphics would knock my ass to the floor. ;)

I agree completely. It really looks too outdated, immersion is not there at all and the missions lack dynamic and random factors. You play the mission once and you know exactly which ships/subs are out there so you can much more easily identify the ships on the passive sonar array. Besides, single missions (and especially these kinds of non-dynamic missions) are boring for single play. They need to make some semi-dynamic campaign set in the cold war. I guess it's too much an investment to start making the whole engine from scratch, especially since their prime customer is the real navy.

If Silent Hunter would proceed on this territory, I feel they have enough head-start with graphics alone. It wouldn't be that much different from SHIII - busting convoys from US bound for Europe :D
