But real u-boats couldn't "all stop" underwater. They would either float to the surface or sink to the bottom.

Even if I order "Ahead slow" my batteries will last longer than my crew will - there's enough oxygen/fresh air for about 40 hours, and the batteries last for longer time.
My real concern is that running on batteries for a very long time is a bigger 'cheat' than ordering full stop underwater, because loading batteries doesnt consume any fuel, and thus lets you travel around the world without much trouble. So I try not to travel submerged (snorkel is still not available).
