What exactly do you mean? In later years they definitely give me headaches. I've had plenty of situations where I did everything 'right' (crash dive, run silent at 1 knot, use decoys, run deep, etc) and they still depth charge me to death. I don't see how this is 'too easy'.

I always got away, but then i always hunt in deep water.Plus for me Stock DD's were too easy to Attack and sink.

What exactly are you doing that lets you get away so easily and kill DDs on a whim?

It's not easy, you have to be on your wits; to be wary of what's going on around you especially when you don't use external camera which I never do. I've lost both periscopes from 2 different 'attack runs' and survived but went back to Port with all my torpedo's [which is a bit annoying]. Look at it as a mix of an adventure and a challenge.

pshhhhhhhhhht. got me killed by a V&W destroyer last night. so i come accross a convoy. its heading right for me and i'm on its starboard flank. its laden with all british ships including c2's c3's and some t2's an armed trawler front and rear and hiding in the rear of the starbord column a V&W.
thinking about this thread i decided to go for the destroyer first. now bearing in mind its like 1am (game time and my time oddly) i close flank speed to within 3.5k then submerge i slow down and set a single torpedo to magnetic det 4m depth. i line up the shot, medium speed and when within 1100m i fired. torpedo is running true and i drop my scope from sight. at detonation time i hear nothing so i pop up my scope and low and behold he's steaming straight for me. grumpily i fire my second torpedo right at him (his range is about 700m at this point right at me and i've got a good angle) lucky i prepped two really. the sod only goes and turns last minute and evades it which insues me having to go deep and silent trying to escape, after much messing and firing another two torps to sheer misses i said "bugger this" and blew ballest. had my deck gun fire at his weapons and hit his depth charges with my zweivierling, commenced crash dive and took a direct hit to the command room and was sunk...

i need tips on wasting destroyers chaps with that V&W out the way i could have mopped up that convoy...

Electric or steam torpedo on the first shot? The reason I ask is a steam could have been seen and evaded.

Sink whatever you can. It is vital that you destroy as many of your foes as possible.

I run at periscope depth directly away from them, then give them a steam stern shot at 400m when they're dead behind me :up:. Works every time. Sank 4 DDs last patrol, then gobbled up the fat tankers in the convoy.

it was a steamy, but i wanted it to be a quick shot. i mean it was fair north atlantic seas, a bit choppy but a clear night. i think i'll use leccy's then. not sure about a stern shot, if i miss its 11 minutes until i can fire again, oh for acoustics! still its 1940, i must soldier on.
