When he stopped at a diner for lunch he was suddenly surrounded by several cops. They all offered him money to let them "Take it for a spin".

Just a story...

Could be true. But in my limited experience police understand how dangerous high speed driving is on public roads as they are often the first on the scene when someone hits a bug at warp 2.

Maybe we need more race tracks that are properly maintained and controlled where people can have their fun in a safe and controlled environment.

Expansion on autocross events could help with that some. It's usually 50 bucks or less and you can throttle your car out without the law looking over your shoulder. It's often done in a large open concrete pad so you don't have to worry about understeering into a wall or spinning out.

EDIT: You don't even have to have special cars or equipment. At all of my local events all safety equipment is provided if you race in the lower classes. Usually just a helmet.

I LOVE road courses...but it's so expensive to go on a track day.

Hennessy is saying they'll boost the HP in the Demon to 1500.

Now when is eouugh enough and the government stops the HP Wars? Or like back in the 70s the Insurance companies put the slam on cars on the highways with high HP.
