Lewis Hamilton clinched a seventh World Championship and became the most successful racing driver ever with a masterful victory in the Turkish Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver equalled Michael Schumacher's achievement in terms of titles, after already surpassing the German's number of race wins last month.

Victory at a treacherously wet and slippery Istanbul Park track in a topsy-turvy race was the 94th of the 35-year-old Briton's career.

As he received the congratulations of his team, Hamilton was almost overcome with emotion in the car after the race, saying: "To all the kids out there, dream the impossible."

Don't you mean the engineers and mechanics clinched the seventh World Championship for him, any of the F1 drivers would win it if they had that car, I'm not impressed. :O:

I'd say a mix of both actually and imho the only driver able to compete would probably be Max Verstappen because Bottas certainly can't and his car has identical specs.

^ Aye, you're probably spot on with that, I seem to have developed a bit of a bias against Hamilton, I must say I wasn't always like this towards him, perhaps its because I find him to be a massive currant on a par with that other massive currant called Beckham. :O:

My bias is probably identical to yours now that he is a tax exile but hypocritically takes every opportunity to have a pop at the way this country is run and his blinkered support of BLM. I subscribe to the opinion that all lives matter.

A late effort from Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in Free Practice 2 of the Bahrain Grand Prix saw him claim a clean sweep of fastest times on the Friday, with the seven-time champion heading the Red Bull of Max Verstappen by 0.347s in the evening session, with Valtteri Bottas just 0.018s further back, in an FP2 interrupted by a big smash for Verstappen’s team mate Alex Albon.

Max Verstappen hinted he could be a thorn in the side of Mercedes in Bahrain in final practice, but when it mattered the Silver Arrows came to the fore, with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton dominating every segment of qualifying to take a stunning pole position.

The Mercedes driver was pegged to just 0.146s by Verstappen after the first runs in Q3, suggesting there could be a tight battle. But Hamilton improved by another quarter of a second on his final run, pushing pole out of reach of his rivals to take his 98th career P1 start.

His team mate Valtteri Bottas popped up into second, the Finn at a loss to explain why he simply wasn’t a threat to Hamilton throughout the session, but he did at least ensure Mercedes lock out the front row for the fifth consecutive season in Bahrain and 75th time in the team’s history.

Verstappen was forced to settle for third, though he can take comfort from starting on the cleaner side of the grid, the Dutchman suggesting the team’s greater focus in setting the car up was on the race, with tyre degradation expected to be crucial on Sunday evening.

What a relief seeing Grosjean got out of the car and walked away.
