Islam had a kind of reformist movement, sufism. It got practically terminated when the Mongoles stormed and destroyed Bagdad 1258 and killed practically everything inside, and there were oratcially all living Sufis of name and fame of that time in Bagdad. What remains of Sufism today is just a powerless shadow of its former self that gets persecuted in many Muslim countries for its relativising of the role of Sharia law and the relevance of some other of the not so friendly aspects and demands of Islam. Many traditional Muslims see Sufism as heresy that deserves death like any infidel not belonging to the community of the book (Christians and Jews must not necessarily be always killed, but at least subjugated nevertheless. All other religions and infidels must be exterminated, to this way bring peace to the world).

Some 350,000-400,000 people remain in northern Gaza, US envoy David Satterfield has said.
Israel is focusing its offensive in this part of the enclave and has urged civilians in the area to move to the south. The Israeli military is also carrying out strikes in the south and the UN says no part of Gaza is safe. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is meeting leaders from Lebanon, Qatar and Jordan in Amman - as he pushes for humanitarian pauses in the fighting. But Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday there will be no temporary ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza until all Israeli hostages are released. The Palestinian Red Crescent said 15 people were killed when an ambulance was hit outside Gaza City's biggest hospital - Israel says it hit an ambulance that was being used by Hamas. |

USA fear the war may spread to the entire region.
Israels refusal to accept a ceasefire and their bombarding the civilians in Gaza, could very well be the torch that light the fire. Egypt and Jordan has said it clearly exaggerated use of force against the civilians could change the diplomatic status between Israel and these two countries. (If I remember correctly) If any doubt-I support Israel Markus |
As clearly stated a number of times the Israeli response should be along the lines of "Release the hostages first" or "You started it so we'll finish it"

The population has it not in its hands to hand Hamas over, unfortunately.
And if it could do it, it still would not do it. The hate on Israel just is too big. |

It got reported that after 07-10 as a matter of fact the number of orthodox Jews volunteering for army service has suddenly gone upwards recently. ;)
Israel cannot move its land and boprders. It either successfully fights in place, or falls. And likely will pull others down with it. Means - they will need to fight on and on and on. I am quite certain this would be the case even if their would be a separate Arab state. Such a state would only be an advanced combat post for Iran, and an achor poiunt for china. Directly in striking distance to all Israeli cities. Ther eis Lebanon, a separate and claimed sorveirgn state. Does it give peace to Israel? Hardly. Fight on, Israel. And you better fight damn well. Forever. |
