Kitchen salt applied by wet brush:
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/3...t003hl7.th.jpg First coat of IJN Kure Gray- instead of using original Schiffsboenfarbe III Grau 1, its lighter, but still retains the delcate green tinge: http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/6...t003dr3.th.jpghttp://img375.imageshack.us/img375/1...t004xz9.th.jpg Second coat, you can see the marks on the timbers are showing nicely like wood grain: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/600...t004ri1.th.jpghttp://img170.imageshack.us/img170/5...t005xz5.th.jpg Sprayed the base color on scopes, and hatch lid: http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/4...t003lq3.th.jpghttp://img413.imageshack.us/img413/9...t002sm5.th.jpg TBC... |
ok, 2 dumb questions  :
How did you get the salt to stick? You'll eventually pick away the salt, which will leave a chipped paint effect showing? |

Coat number 3 and 4 applied. I softened the paint with Baltic Gray, and Helgrau 50 in last 2 coats, and added more varnish.
Than the salt was removed. http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/9...k002sz3.th.jpg Tomorrow ill add same wash and more brush enhancements. TBC... |
Gloss varnish and acrylic wash applied.
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/9...t001kv2.th.jpghttp://img211.imageshack.us/img211/3...t003ua3.th.jpghttp://img397.imageshack.us/img397/9...t005do2.th.jpghttp://img91.imageshack.us/img91/848...t007vw6.th.jpg Once dry ill polish the paintwork, add some chips, rusty streaks, and paint discoloration, and seal the lot with satin combination of Tamiya X 21, and X-22 TBC... |
Finished painting the CT, had the good, long look at it, and washed the lot off.
It turned too dark for my liking, and weathering made it look even darker. The WEM enamels proved hard work. I will start anew using Tamiya acrylics.:hmm: |
Washing the old paint destroyed some detail on the scopes, and im making replacements, the good thing is the replacements will be better than the last.

Managed to make the attack periscope mounting plate. Sheet of steryne 0,5 mm drilled with 0,4 mm drillbit. Bottom part of the holes was widened to 0,6 mm to hold glue.
After the glue around the wires cured i sanded the bottom flush, and the top on paper 1500 grit to required length. http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/8...op31tn9.th.jpg I received the delivery of missing cross. Missing- because it is the second one PZG company has sent me- first one dissapeared. Thanks to PZG they sent replacement free of charge. http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/2...s002nm2.th.jpg Hope none will be offended by the picture, as it is just accessory for the model kit. It will rest on the plank along with the U-bootwaffe badge. TBC... |
