Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum

https://i.imgur.com/a5cbH0H.jpg

A mate bought me this for Christmas... I do post about a nice rum find on here occasionally, although it doesn't go into the index since this is mainly a thread about beer and cider

This is a beautiful golden rum with a distinct taste of almonds, which I love to discover in anything (cakes, ice cream etc) and is the full 40% ABV

^ The boy occasionally brings me a bottle back if he is cruising around the Caribbean.

Whitstable Bay Organic Ale is a light coloured ale that is brewed using only
organic ingredients, and the brewery’s own chalk-filtered mineral water. It combines delicate hints of fresh hops with the softer, buttery richness of pale and crystal malts to produce a delightful ale.

A nice accompaniment to this years Christmas dinner.

Harper's Brewing Co "Medusa"

https://i.imgur.com/5ZfcqZD.jpg 500 ml, ABV 5%

I believe I picked this up in B&M Stores before Christmas, and I don't recall how much it cost. It's a dark ruby ale with a strong roasted malt taste, added to which are powerful plum and cherry flavours

This would've been good to drink with the Christmas pudding

Batemans brewery "Victory Ale"

A gorgeously soft beer which tingles all over the tongue with ripe fruitiness. The darkish ale rises up the glass with a fine creamy head on it, and this will be my beer of choice for a while now

Brewed just up the coast from here at Wainfleet, it's a great drink after a local pork pie, I can tell you

Made with English Roasted Barley, Pale Crystal Malts and English Golding Hops it is a good balance of ripe grain and spicy hops with a long bittersweet finish.

Maxim Brewery is a beer brewing company based in Houghton-le-Spring, United Kingdom. It was set up to rescue the famous Double Maxim beer, which had ceased production when the Vaux brewery was closed in 1999.

Morland "Old Hoppy Hen" Pale Ale

A very soft yet crisp and bitter taste, so different from the darker and stronger 'Old Crafty Hen'... beautiful

Looks all interesting, how much does one bottle or a sixpack cost? And how much is in one bottle: 0,3 - 0,5 litres, or a pint?
Are there so much breweries, in England?

I was not aware that SPAR also went there edit: it now belongs to EDEKA? That's the old Einkaufsgenossenschaft deutscher Kolonialwarenhändler :D

Eichhörnchen 01-22-20 10:20 AM

I forget how much the bottles were; I saw the "three for £5.50" sign and the beer-goggles took over from there

Williams Bros. "Iconic" American Pale Ale

https://i.imgur.com/GUVDPml.jpg ABV4.4%; £1.49 at ALDI

A very clean, honeyed sweet taste soon gives way to a crisp bitterness

I did a double-take when I saw the name "Williams Bros."... keen aeromodellers will know what I mean... but this is brewed in Scotland, not the US

8-Sail Brewery "King John's Jewels"

https://i.imgur.com/LnOJVkd.jpg ABV 4.5%; £2.50 from local farm shop

I so wanted to like this since it's a product of a small local brewery in nearby Heckington, the brewers taking their name from the mill there, Britain's only remaining eight-sailed windmil... but when I saw it was cloudy I was not so keen

It turned out to be rather sharp tasting, which doesn't sit well with the bitterness... perhaps it got bottled too soon, I don't know

According to the label it's a golden ale brewed to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, yet there's no mention of the even more significant local link with King John... namely his losing of the Crown Jewels whilst attemting to cross the inland sea here known as The Wash in October 1216

Acorn Barnsley Bitter

https://i.postimg.cc/jqybCgd3/iiiiiii.jpg AVE 3.8% Four for £6 at ASDA

Barnsley Bitter is brewed using the finest quality Maris Otter malt and English hops. Chestnut in colour, having a well rounded, rich flavour, it retains a lasting bitter finish.

Went down well with a Ribeye last night.

8-Sails Brewery ""John Barleycorn" IPA

https://i.imgur.com/vIDc8UI.jpg ABV 5.5%; £2.50 from local farm shop

While it's not necessarily a bad thing to find these craft beers a little cloudy (there's a direction on this bottle to "Pour carefully, contains sediment") I'm always a little wary until the first taste. This one is good... a lovely refreshing bitter ale, just how I like it

Brewed in our locality (see my review of 'King John's Jewels' above) this producer was established only in 2010

PRAVHA

https://i.postimg.cc/05T4Wnwh/tjyhmuuk.jpg ABV 4% Four for £6 ASDA

This 4% premium pilsner has all the iconic flavour and gentle bitterness of a high quality Czech pilsner, but is unexpectedly crisp, lighter tasting and refreshing.

Had a couple whilst watching the TOON game on iPlayer last night and will enjoy the remaining two with my Indian curry tonight.
