Thanks

It may be U-72 (Sander), as a trainings boat in the Baltic. Someone posted this pic in a different forum and asked the same question.

Thanks

Dear U-796, remind that this U-Boot is the U-617, commanded by Albrecht Brandi, I realized a capture of my display in this film: 1943-08-11 - Die Deutsche Wochenschau Nr. 675 08:32 > 09:15 emblem of U-617.
This is the cause of the poor quality of this image....

Does anybody have pictures of U-486 (Type VIIC/ 11th Flotilla/ Oblt. Gerhard Meyer)?

Or know how I could obtain a copy of the boat's KTB?

US National Archive in Virginia should have a copy, if it was a front boat. You can also try the Bundesarchiv, Abteilung Militärgeschichte, Germany. A copy should also be in The National Archives in London.

Thanks Thomen! I'll have to look into those. I know for sure that the UK National Archives has files related to the Admiralty's inquiry into the sinking of SS Leopoldville - which is where my interest is with U-486.

It was a front line boat (albeit very late war) - and was sunk in April '45 near Bergen with all hands lost.

When I check the UK National Archives -- should I search for anything special when I look for the KTB? Or would U-486 KTB suffice?

The best way would probably be to make an email inquiry. Never had much luck with the search functions, myself.

Hi U 796.

I have just come across this forum and see reference to U 518 being attacked on 27 June 1943.

You may care to contact me about this occurrence. For me it is very interesting.
