Ah, that one...? I noticed that in the previous version of ROW Special Effects, but didn't really pay it much attention. The fire spawns from the wrong point, it seems. You can also see it in other ship's masts.

BTW, the more I see the new shell explosion effect, the more it grows on me. I'm beginning to REALLY like it! Some things are love at first sight, other slowly grow on you until you just can't do without them. ;)
Oh, I think I see what you mean now, the fires are the fires that burn continuously to indicate damage? Does it only happen on certain vessels or all of them? If it only happens on a select group of ships, the only thing I can think of that would make that happen would be to change the ship dimensions so that they didn't agree with the 3d model and the game would spawn the fires higher. I'll check on a few sampans, see if I get a problem I didn't get any probs on destroyers I tried.

Glad you like the effect!

ROW PE 2.1 clouds released

New clouds and shaders from ROW PE 2.1 released on first page of this thread and in a new thread as a teaser on what's coming up, the clouds can be used for the PE2, EE 4 mod, TM, RFB and RSWD etc.

It seems the poll is turning to that this mod should be released as a complete package, so there will not be anymore releases before the arival of the full PE 2.1 mod.

Enjoy the new clouds :)

Hey Kriller2 you and your crew are doing a fantastic job. I stuck my head in the new clouds post and I must say you guys are doing one heck of a job. I showed my dad the other day you normal Pe2 mod (hes not a gamer). He thought I was watching a movie, he thought it WAS real.

Do you guys need maybe a PR guy or a designated cheerleader :P I'm up to the task. But seriously, you guys are doing amazing things for this game and the community, and I just wanted ya'll to know that. (Yes I'm From Texas):damn:

rcjonessnp175 04-15-08 06:23 PM

ya i definately say put back in the sfx u stripped due to performance issues, if its figured out how to rectify the slowdowns. And if so id definately give it a wirl with the new effects, in regards to the new shell explosion effects when i ran it two nights ago i didnt see the new fire impact effect from the shells but ill double check to night when i hit the seas.

Kriller2, to comment on the new skies, thier absulutly ridiculous, its like looking at a high res picture from my camera, ur spot on with the skies, and reflections. Been kind of busy past couple of days alot of shooting. Looks like i have time to test tonight and ill try and get some screenies up, oh also saw at bestbuy they had a 9800gtx for 380 ish boy i was tempted, and might try to pick it up when i pick up Aliens versus predator 2 on bluray tonight. ha.

This work u guys have done is amazing and really its a whole new game, and its such a joy to experience, and its no joke, subsessed is contagious hahah:rock::rock:

Hi RCjones and Carotio and Letterboy.

The new shell effects is in your PM's, I haven't had time to look into the optimization yet, so if you experience slowdowns, turn off 3-d damage effects in the options menu and see if that helps.

BTW I got the Submarine Caustics AND KapitansZurSee's undewater bubbles effects to work with the new addon's submarine data files yesterday by using S3D (what a tool! ) , but I realy would like to add Dave's Roll and pitch mod as well, so it's not finished yet..

DrBeast 04-16-08 04:53 AM

I think I've established positive results by tweaking some textures pertaining to damage. I've got a boring meeting coming up now, I'll be back with details in a while.

DrBeast 04-16-08 06:51 AM

Ok, boring committee meeting is over, now to the good stuff :p

After a couple of quick modifications to two texture files, it *seems* I have squashed the performance hit problem once and for all. I resized DamageNoise to 512x512 and saved dmg_new01 as DDS1 with no alpha, since it didn't use one anyway. Tested it to death on a Yamato, a Kongo, a Hiyo, a Huge European Liner, a Large Oil Tanker, and my sub as test subjects, and got no performance hit at all. I also reinstated Jake's Seafoam textures in their original size, and had no performance impact on 9m/sec wind (didn't test with any stronger winds, because I'm getting side-effects from the scene.dat, which I've mentioned to Kriller2).

Having established positive results, I reworked the Special Effects a bit. I added more fire effects, and a few explosions as well. I also reworked the Effects I had added to the player subs, as I was getting some strange side-effects (pun intended).

Kriller2, expect a PM ;)

Dutch, a Guinness or two wouldn't be all that bad, actually! :D Wait, you said you're from Texas...? Hm, ok, I'll settle with some bourbon then. Sorry mate, but American beer isn't very high on my list!

ETA: A few more "teaser" pics of what's coming from the Special Effects department ;)

Nisgeis has surely added some punch to the shell explosion effect

That boat isn't making it home. :rotfl:

Glad to see that the damage issues were resolved. Any progress with volumetric fog? I keep it off, because it knocks my FPS down 50%. Even in light fog.

Nope...all fuel spilt, engines destroyed, all compartments flooded. And this wasn't even a stock sub, it's one with massively beefed up hit points and crew members! But hey, when a Yamato is doing the pounding, you're doomed! :rotfl:

M. Sarsfield 04-16-08 09:41 AM

With something that big lobbing 18"+ shells at you, your boat should have disintegrated... even if it was beefed up. In game, our subs should probably be shown breaking in half and quickly sinking if something this abusive hits it.

rcjonessnp175 04-16-08 11:47 AM

Looking awesome, just downloaded the files and about to give her a whirl. I agree id like to see daves camera work too.:up:

rcjonessnp175 04-16-08 12:22 PM

*DrBeast heaves a sigh of relief

At least I'll be leaving for my vacations with a clear conscience.

Carotio 04-17-08 07:26 AM

I have tested the New Shell Effect too and it looks pretty mighty fine  and still running the game with 75 FPS

The camera file have soom bugs, which I have mentioned to Kriller2, but I don't know if any of you consider this a bug: when I pause the game in external camera, I like to move the mouse around to make screenshots, but with this camera file the camera are frozen in one position, cannot move the mouse untill back on 1TC. There goes the perfect screenshot... :damn:
