Quite true; I posted the Ferry version as sort of a contrast...

This song is a bit on the dark side, but very interesting in how the VU were able to weave the instruments and Reed's vocal into a whole:

BTW, the film clips in the VU clips posted are from movies Andy Warhol shot as part of his arts collective known as The Factory and several of the more well known Factory members can been seen in the clips; I also want to point out the drummer with the short hair, shades, and striped shirt is Moe (Maureen) Tucker who was notable not only for being the VU's drummer, but, also, for the fact she played drums standing up...

The VU were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1996, and the three surviving members, Lou Reed, John Cale, and Moe Tucker accepted the award and performed; Sterling Morrison, an extremely talented guitarist had passed away a year earlier; it is Sterling who can be heard playing among the multi-tracked guitars, including the solo, on What Goes On. The The three band members performed together for what would be the last time at the awards ceremony and, instead of just playing one of their old hits, they collaborated to write a song in honor of their departed bandmate:

Talkin' about female drummers the first I can recall is Sheila E and her "Glamorous life" video from 80's. She also performed with Prince (You know her) and occasionally played standing up too.

Better than the original / commonly heard

Although I searched, I probably didn't use the right terms, so my apologies if this needs to be merged. This is for versions seem to you to be better than the original / commonly heard version.

Something perhaps a little different for Eichhörnchen and others here that love classical music. This piece performed by Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra

This piece Features Manoe Konings on the bagpipes. Manoe is a gifted musician who also plays Clarinet, Guitar, Saxophone and sings and dances. Manoe is a true entertainer. Manoe is a bit unconventional and fun loving as she can be seen zipping through her hometown on her motorcycle in a leather jacket when not playing in her Orchestra. Truly, someone after my own heart.

This piece is called Vrijth and was performed in Maastricht in the Netherlands.
