I'm not to keen on the HUD. It seems too "dated looking"...is that the term I'm looking for?

That's too funny. Y'all want to drive 1940's submersibles, but y'all want a 21st century looking interface..

Seriously, it looks OK to me. it looks functional, and it's supposed to be editable. major plus in my books.

Just becuase the submarines are from the 40's, doesn't mean the HUD has to be. lol

Yeah! Hell! Lets have 3D Vista style HUD, with Star-Trek LCARS panels and MFD's :know:

Godalmighty83 03-10-07 06:37 PM

well id prefer a hud that doesnt look like it was made by a 5-year old using a ruler and some assorted wee-coloured pastels. but if you want to pilot the enterprise thats up to you ;)

sh3's only needed a bit of tweaking, the new one looks like a step-back in quality and effort.

I never asked for a "modern" hud. The one currently in place just looks dated by todays standards workmanship wise. SH3's hud looks to be of a higher quality IMO.

Don't confuse "dated looking" with "I want the games hud to look like a space-sim". That would be an inaccurate assumption. I just think the current hud for SHIV looks like a panel from MSFS 98. lol ;)

Hackett 03-10-07 08:00 PM

I didn't confuse or miss-understand anything. It was just sarcasm!

"You can please some of the people, some of the time, but you can't please all of the people, all of the time".

The dev's are on a tight accelerated schedule, (Whether you blame them or Ubisoft, I don't care.) and they still don't have time to put in things like wolfpacks, or even just simple AI submersibles, or other important features the community as a whole wants, but Ark wants a better quality artwork HUD... ( Just sarcasm nothing more.)

I'm sure the modding community will save the day, as they have done for the last two titles.

:ping:

I agree. I have a lot of faith in our modding community to fix whatever they CAN fix without having access to the hardcode. Those guys are awesome....

they could have saved a bit of time by not vandalising what already looked ok.

a definite step backwards in interface, looks like the layout for a megadrive sim game.

il stop moaning about this now....promise.

They are slideout anyway and hidden for most of the time .

its not a HUD (Heads Up Display) there in the cockpits of military jet's and such.

its a GUI or Graphical User Interface.

It762 03-11-07 12:41 PM

But to trust always in the community is not very good way. Of course a gmae can be greatly enhanced by the community but the stock game must be playable!

COmmunity mods are often overwhelming in numbers and a not to underestimating part of them breaks the balance or are causing new problems.

It is the JOB of the developers and the publisher to create a game that is in a playable state.

Let's see how they did their work with SH4 ;) But if it's unplayable I will not wait again for months to get patches.

I know what a HUD is on modern aircraft. lol What we are referring to in SHIV is still called the hud, like it is in most games. :)

Huds in videogames can be used to show quite a few game aspects, one of them being menus and whatot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HUD_(computer_gaming) ;)

I acutally don't know why some of you do not like the Interface. It seems to be clearly structured and the colors are also OK. I like it.
Anyway... Let's see how "customizable" it finally will be...:ping:

This is in response to the Operation Petticoat post:
I think the US did paint their scopes pink, I remember reading that in one of Richard O'Kanes books. Pink is the hardest color to spot for the scopes.

During my Survival at Sea training I was told that Pink would be the best colour for life boats, I assume because that is the best colour to spot. But for unknown reasons ;) they are never painted that colour.
