One question Fubar, I wonder if there would be more weathering on the front surfaces of the hull and connings tower, I mean pealed paint etc, as this surfaces would face constant friction with wind or rain, which I would imagine would be fairly abrasive, and with the sea when the sub dived which I would imagine would be very abrasive, just a thoughts, not a critisism in any way you are the best.

Can you give any hints re your weathering techniques, I recon I'd like to get into the merchant skins and mess them up a whole lot, and you and Venatore seem to be the undoubted kings of peeling paint and rust. How does you do it
Yes rascal101 I think you could be wright about the weathering on the front of the conning tower however there is a texture repeat problem on the tower which sometimes puts details on the tower where you dont want them to be, on the type IXC-B tower this problem is not such a problem so I will add more weathering on the front of that tower. Also when you use this skin with the standard conning tower there is more paint peel around the base of the tower.

As regards to weathing techniques aways work with layers this way you can make many changes to one layer without changeing another. Anyway generally I use brushes to paint say rust on the hull (useing a colour that looks like rust) then use one of the deletion brushes to modify the rust, you need to experement with this. Then perhaps add some noise to the rust colour then you should have something that looks ok. You can use this technique for dirt ect its all about experementation.
If you wish to create a paint chip affect then make one layer with your main uboat colour say dark gray then under this layer make another layer lets say light gray then I use one of the deletion bushes to delete parts of the dark grey layer which
then will reveal the light gray. Hope this helps, SORRY I'm not good at explenations.

Scheisskopf yes it works for the VIIB and C

Last piont I'd just like to say thanks again guys I get alot of fun out of making these skins and its the icing on the cake when you guys like them:up:

Nice 1 Fubar ;) Great work

Just playing a career and still have the IX B....thought of changing to IX C before the next mission...but I think I will at least do one more with the IX B. The people of lorient should see this beauty :D

Thx for the great skins and looking forward to the other weathered Typ IX model skins.

If using SH3 commander then u can let the game decide the skin....when the skins are made for the same UBoat Typ...the random folder rulez ;) .

rascal101 01-27-07 10:38 PM

Oh here we go another Fubar master piece, ho hum

Hi Mr FB well done and nice shot of the front of things. I wonder if you could apply your tallents to the merchant ships we all like to sink, after all I spend more time looking at them than I do my own sub

I'm thinking if you shor the way I could follow
