I suppose ( guess ) it could be Names_first.lst or Names_last.lst...
but it would be one name only , not first or last.
Some thing like THETYS not Johann THETYS or THETYS Johann
Just one single name.

Hi...err, i'm trying to follow what you're talking about but i'm a little bit lost. Are you talking about the ship names.cfg file? Is it this file you want to modify? And how?

No, what I am trying to do is try to change a 2 parts name ( as Kaleun names are formated ) into ONE greek mythological name like POSEIDON ( for example ).
And hence would like to know what file has to be modified. There seems to be 2 files, right, but I would like one name only when I open SH3.

P.S. : That is related to the Enigma Forum, because initialy somebody thought we should take Greek Mythological name for our members, and carriers. It's just a fancy, you know, but I think, for us, it would be nice. Just a unique pattern for us Kaleuns from the Enigma Forum , You see.....

All you should have to do to use a name of your own choosing is type it into the blank space provided when you select "new career."

Hitting the RN button to generate a random name for your kaleun will use Commander's database of "real" names to create one for you, but you don't have to do that nor do you have to add your desired name to Commander's files. Just type it in is all.

Honestly, I'm *really* struggling to understand your question. If you want to enter a Greek Mythological name for a new career "when you open SH3", just open SH3, start a new career, and enter whatever name you want.

If you want to use SH3Cmdr to setup a new career, just open it, and enter whatever name you want.

Call yourself Snuffleupagus if you want and neither SH3Cmdr or SH3 will care.

You don't need to edit anything.

If you want the randomise names button to generate a random Greek mythological name, then, yes, you need to edit Names_first.lst and Names_last.lst in Notepad.

In Names_first.lst, replace the contents with the mythological names that you want to draw from. In Names_last.lst, simply open and delete the contents and press Enter once (to add a blank line - seems somewhere along the development cycle I removed the ability to simply delete the file without upsetting SH3Cmdr).

Blame the Turner Classic Movies programmers. They just happened to be running Duck Soup that day, no doubt if it'd been Animal Crackers I would've gone with Spaulding instead.

Actually Rufus T. Firefly has become my standard kaleun choice for "test" careers. I even added an appropriately sized picture to Commander so I wouldn't have to tarnish some real Kriegsmariner's image by association. :O:

Having started pre-war '39 and surviving ten total patrols Oberleutnant Alfred Middeke retired from active command. I've continued with a new commander, but our boat seems to have oddly teleported. We docked at Wilhelmshaven in late June '40, with a wee ::cough::cough:: :88) bit of damage. However, it's now September and we're in Lorient??

I must have been hitting the schnapps a bit to have forgotten that little jaunt! :arrgh!:
