What a wonderful model are you doing pal!
|
Thanks Sabalo, i just hope i live long enough to finish it. ;)
Port side of the CT. I managed to divide the wall into 2 sections- double layer, and single at the front, which will be reinforced with few vertical ribs. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/8...a005vg3.th.jpghttp://img368.imageshack.us/img368/7...1002oc0.th.jpghttp://img441.imageshack.us/img441/2...1003zp3.th.jpghttp://img253.imageshack.us/img253/5...1004vm8.th.jpghttp://img80.imageshack.us/img80/631...1001ii7.th.jpg TBC... |
The step was added, as was the MG stowage. I have no fotographic evidence it did exist on U-552, but some pics show it on other Blohm £ Voss boat from the same period.

Im planning on ordering the glass tank- once the build is done. Before that i cant guess the dimensions. I know the length, but what the hight gonna be i can only estimate. Because it will be some investment i better wait till the job is done. The tank / only 5 sides / will be placed upside down over the quality length of timber. Ive ordered the Iron Cross with swords and leaves, along with replica U-boat badge, and they will find place to the sides of boat. So far im still building it, and just got the Koki soldering paste- so i can solder the wintergarten. Highly skilled job- requires the best material.:yep: http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/7...a002ab0.th.jpg I just hope i have more luck with it than with the normal soldering methods. |
The port side seat was scratch built just like the starboard one.
http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/3...e003hw2.th.jpg Two holes were drilled in both halves of upper CT. Steel rods added to reinforce the joint. http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/8...e007hp3.th.jpg http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/6...e008ed2.th.jpg http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/9...e012lj8.th.jpg http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/8...e011gf0.th.jpg TBC... |
Front of the CT deck needs to be filled in, in RL it was covered by steel plate. Beer can came to the resque.
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/4...l001qv3.th.jpg Ive added some pattern to replicate the antislip surface of the plate. http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/5...l002qu2.th.jpg http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/1...l003sk7.th.jpg Two small hatches were cut from the beer can. Ive drilled the handle, and added the hinges. http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/7...l007hf3.th.jpg http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5...l008uj4.th.jpg http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/2...l009zz2.th.jpg TBC... |
Im still learning how to solder with the Koki paste, and this should help a little:

That beer can's getting excellent mileage :D . How did you do the indenting for the non-slip surface? Looks very nice and perfectly to scale  .

The hatch leading down to inside of the boat has the slightly protruded rim. So ive cut thin strip of brass, roled it: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/1...g001fg8.th.jpg My new soldering iron was used + Koki paste / best thing since sliced bread / http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/1...g002nz9.th.jpg Sanded: http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/2...g006zw9.th.jpg In place: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6...3003jw4.th.jpg The soldering iron performed flawlessly, and im wondering where it has been all my life? TBC... |
Im using the scopes from Schatton Modellbau.
Attack scope. http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/730...1001pk2.th.jpghttp://img374.imageshack.us/img374/8...1002iq3.th.jpghttp://img207.imageshack.us/img207/3...s004lg4.th.jpghttp://img212.imageshack.us/img212/1...s015js4.th.jpg Observation scope. http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9...1003jv2.th.jpghttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/4...1006ml3.th.jpghttp://img212.imageshack.us/img212/7...s005cv0.th.jpghttp://img87.imageshack.us/img87/657...s007zp5.th.jpg The scope tubes were glued in the CT. Scopes are only in for the pic. http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/7...s016lh4.th.jpghttp://img264.imageshack.us/img264/5...s020bw9.th.jpg TBC... |
Main Hatch lid.
The lid was fashioned from resin. Brass ring was created from wire. I think the soldering turned out neat. http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/8...1001gu7.th.jpg Ive sanded the ring flat on both sides with the sheet of sandpaper. Ring was glued to the underside of lid. http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/8...1004lt2.th.jpg Ive drilled the 0,8mm hole in the center, and inserted the stretched sprue for the opening mechanism pin. http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/3...1007jt4.th.jpghttp://img359.imageshack.us/img359/8...1008gw2.th.jpg Because i still dont know how to etch in metal, the lid arms were scratch built from sheet of thin brass. http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/4...1010yn6.th.jpg Spring was created by winding the wire on the sewing pin. http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/4...2001vs1.th.jpghttp://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2...2002mm1.th.jpg Hinges were made out of the beer can. http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/6...lid3wx5.th.jpg Added rest of the detail from various PE, and made wire handle. The hinges do work, as they were fixed by threading the stretched sprue, and blobing the ends with hot knife. http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/1...id31nn1.th.jpghttp://img187.imageshack.us/img187/2...4001xr7.th.jpg Dry fit. http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7...5001yy2.th.jpg TBC... |
