Because the GW renown system severely penalizes you if you don't play at 100% difficulty. With everything else on except for map updates, manual targeting and external camera you don't get around 63% of total renown, that's really sucky. With NYGM you get 100% tonnage with even less than those features on.

So when faced with having to do nearly twice as many patrols to afford the same amount of upgrades it's really easier to just get rid of the whole renown system completely since only getting 63% credit is UnFun™. :)

Well said. IMHO you shouldn't have to be a "famous" Kaleun to get upgrades. I like the HYGM tonnage based system but I don't know how to convert GW totally to tonnage so I used their no renown and increased "training'install" times for any upgrades. It works for me.;)

That's one option. Or you can remove the Gramaphone folder altogether and then replace it once GWX is installed.

2) My grammaphone ALWAYS skips... has there ever been a fix to this? I did try converting all my song files to .ogg and the result was it still skips.
I converted all mine to .wav and have had no problems.

For performance and weight reduction Pants converted all our Gramophone bits to ogg.vorbis just so you know... Its a basic selection for those that don't know how to manipulate SH3 files... That way they have at least something... Otherwise players can add, delete, or change as they wish.

Stock SH3 didn't come with anything at all in there... so we filled in the hole with some period music... Though I would like to add some Pink Floyd to mine.:arrgh!:

Hello everyone... just thought I would interject here with a link to a previous post of mine that explains how to organize your .ogg gramaphone files so they won't skip anymore. I've been playing on and off since I wrote the following link message and have yet to encounter a problem.
Here is the link for how to fix your SH3 Gramaphone:

By the way, I am running GW1.1a for the curious!

Thanks. I converted all mine to oog format using FreeRIP and never had a problem since. I noticed the three digit number in front of the file names but I don't remember putting them there or downloading the files with them there. FreeRip may have inserted them at the beginning as I did a "mass" convert.

Sure thing Samwolf- I have no idea WHY using this particular format works, but it does, so that's all that matters I suppose.

I agree, used to bug me because it seemed it was always my favorite songs that were getting cut off.

There IS a fairly simple workaround. Edit your renown values earned per ship (don't ask me how, I've never done it, but I imagine it couldn't be too hard) so that you earn full value based on whatever realism percent you play.

Example: King George BB is currently worth 1500 renown. You play on 63% realism. Edit the King George so it gives 2380 renown. (Since 2380 x 63% is about equal to 1500). There you go. 100% renown on 63% realism :smug:

Since this isn't a total thread hijack, I'll bring it back to GWX...

I really can't wait to see all the surprises in store. I've heard that GWX will include a new ship sinking mechanic. Is there anything more the GWX team can tell us about that?

Ducimus 11-16-06 10:00 PM

Renown is different from tonnage. Think of renown as simply fame or popularity. The more you accomplish, the more famous/popular/influential you become. Someone with alot of influence can pretty much get what they want in terms of equipment aquisition.
Thats the argument for renonwn, and its a STOCK feature. Not a GW specific one.

The NYGM system is a basically a very clever way to work the same renown system. All they did was increase the renown awarded per ship type to equal it's tonnage, then force the game to play at a 100% realism percentage with minimal realism options checked so your rewarded 100% of your renown.

Renown in stock and NYGM's use of it are entirely different. The stock system rewards the player for being successful. The more realistic, the more the reward. NYGM's system only costs you time in port, but it does not reward success the same way the stock system does.

Has anything been done to address the woeful 3D crew textures . Really wrecks the whole visual effect of the game in my opinion .

Ducimus 11-16-06 11:26 PM

Crew textures have been redone in GWX.

Has the much rumored "Nudie Jessica Alba Nurse" skin* been implemented? It would make those trips out of and back into port much more interesting!

*Note: There is no such skin. A man can dream, can't he?

Deep-Six 11-17-06 01:03 AM

Ok, I have finally d/l all the files and installed it.

now for the big test...:)

Do you use SH3Cmdr? Do you have the "Randomise Gramophone tracks" option selected?

If yes to both, there's the reason why the prefixing numbers - SH3Cmdr adds them on load to force a "shuffle" of the tracks.

A simple rollback removes the numbers (assuming they weren't there to begin with ;)).
